Frustrated
He made his test debut against Australia in 2014. In that entire tour , he batted at No 3 or 4. That is where he should hv been batting all along. Clearly, he doesn't hv the technique or temperament to survive as an opener even against half decent pace bowling. He has been monkeyed with by Team management without giving him a chance to settle in the Test squad right from the get go. It will be no different going forward either. You can't play freely with a sword hanging on top of your head. Has the TM given him an extended run at the top? They keep bringing back Thigh slapper the moment they get a chance. They kept rotating the openers through some grotesque rotation policy without letting anyone settle into the role. In any case I do agree if he does not score runs with the chances given his test chapter is closed. Frustrated, UrmiSinhaRay and coffee_rules 1 1 1 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
seems Rahul do not have the mental toughness & temperament required to come thru and get more better. And even his technique to tackle the moving ball as an opener seems a bit off. velu and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment
Adi BB
Raul is seen as the test opener by kohli and shastri and rightly so ,else he wouldn't have got a full series in England. Raul must be given full chance to settle in that opening slot and I am sure he will by the end of Australian tour Lannister 1 Link to comment

Straight Drive
Rahuls has test career average of 37. He needs to take it to 45 at least to be considered as quality batsman. Talent is useless if one has average of 37 after 50 innings. Link to comment

Tendulkar1996
Give him the next test and 2 tests in aus,if he fails - booted back to domestics.Mayank and rohit should be backup for him.Mayank gets priority with rohit having the flexibility of having good technique for aus pitches and being able to replace rahane in the middle order if needed.(if both vihari and rahane fail) Edited October 9, 2018 by Tendulkar1996 Forever Indian, Lannister, sarcastic and 1 other 2 2 Link to comment

Kohli is different he has hunger to succeed. Rahul on the other has hunger for insta pics. His attitude is a big problem he acts like a typical urban kid who tries to act cool but that’s about it. velu and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
Another bit off with Rahul is his 'skeleton' . Though not a problem in itself, generally opening batsmen who are tall & comparatively thin builds up as inferior batsmen when compared to those who are much shorter in height & have broader waist line. Sunil Gavaskar, Hayden,Graeme Smith,Boycott etc etc comes to mind. Rahul is too off w.r.t body frame for my liking. A left handed stocky build batsman to partner Shaw would be ideal for opening slot UrmiSinhaRay and Kothili 1 1 Link to comment

G_B_
he needs some consistency more than anything. a string of 50s probably a better statement than a run of ducks and a 200. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Infact, he has been given an extended run, despite failing miserably in England (century in a dead rubber does not count much). Fact is : He is an overhyped batsman who is useless in reality . Should never be near the Indian team in tests. WC2011INDIA and UrmiSinhaRay 2 Link to comment
