To make matter worse our lower order has the worst batting skills since the days of Chandrasekar, Bedi. It is a perfect storm.

Now this guy Abhishek sharma who was one of the bowler for us in the U19 hardly bowled last week. His role is defined as bowler. But he has opened the innings and scored 78 bowled only 3 overs the entire match. Ironically Ashwin is probably the 2nd best all rounder in India behind Pandya.

That will be Jadeja, no? Ashwin has regressed a little bit. Has the ability to actually average even 40 in tests but just not focused enough perhaps.

Rohit has shoulder issues. Why risk your best/2nd best bat by forcing him to bowl.

 

Guys like Rahane, Pandey etc could have been so much more useful if they could get some overs in. Wasn’t Pandey listed as an allrounder on cricinfo in the past? 

 

Credit where due Jadhav has made himself useful. People are now cheering for him to be in the side even though he is a pretty average batsman.

We just do not have options. Part time bowling is on decline due to T20 and high amounts of cricket being played. Below average and part timers get walloped big time in T20 so leagues generally will have enough allrounders so part timers generally never bowl in IPL etc. compare n first few seasons where likes of Yuvraj and Rohit used to bowl regularly and take wickets. There are just very few part timers now across teams. Either you are lucky to have quality all rounders like England or you push your bowlers to bat better (we seem to suck at both of these). Top order batsmen bowling is a declining trend.

I cant forget that 2016 odi series vs nz and scott styris commentating and fuming how can this guy get wickets so easily.

There is no such thing called allrounder. What is Pandya?? even Binny changed games with his bowling , that does not mean he should become automatic choice as an allrounder.

 

Unless a player can get into a team either as a bowler or batsman , there should be no room for that player in team. Bhuvi will do more as an allrounder than Pandya.I would play Bhuvi and 4 other bowlers in first test.

Almost all LOI problems can be traced to a single person. Now let's not state the obvious and move on....Dhoni playing results in an extra wk-bat/specialist batsman playing. Hence, another all-rounder may not have the space. Dhoni plays due to Kohli's support. Hence it's a result of Kohli's captaincy.

But he did convert himself in the opposite way

Problem is two new balls, has largely reduced effectiveness of part timers.

Thus young batsman are not taking their bowling seriously.
