Lack of a 6th bowling option for India is a result of Virat's style of captaincy - Joy Bhattacharjya

Rohit used to bowl and even got a hat trick in IPL but that was years ago and he has stopped bowling completely.Maybe he should try his hand at it again.

People who start waxing peotic about Dhoni's captaincy need to understand the players.I expected better from Akash.Kohli, coach  and to some extent selectors can only choose players they have been given. This where guy like Hardik comes short, he had so many IPLs and also other matches where he could improve his bowling but he has not improved. He should be good enough to bowl 4 overs for his IPL team.

Bhuvi became a better death bowler after doing the same for his IPL franchise. When you are playing guys like Pandyas you need six bowlers.

Too bad Kohli has regularly played 6 bowling options in LOIs.

Chahal, Kuldeep, Bumrah, BK, Pandya, and Jadhav.

In tests there isn't much of a benefit in playing a 6th bowler, as there is effectively no upper limit on how many overs can be bowled by the top bowlers in a side.

Can't agree with that. It's the lack of options. Who should he choose? Raina is not here. Should he get Vihari in? The 6th bowler has been a problem even before Kohli became captain.

could have gotten krunal in asia cup and even before , their we wasted time on chahar n jaddu

Raina was a wring choice to start with , usse to ab batting bhi nhin hoti. Both pandya bros have given gr8 balance to MI......

i cud have understood if Krunal also wud have failed n we wud have been looking all around, but we havent even tried him yet

Another intersting option is vijay shankar, now i knw he lacks gear for 6 n 7 but then make him bat at 4 which i dnt think so he wud have done bad , he has a solid game

Sundar is another option ,even though m not sold over his power game for lower order

We have not tried . Where kohli went wrong was going back to old options like raina, yuvi

Why are our bats not trying some bowling in nets. They could easily learn. I would say, start with Shaw

not easy with

  • 4 fielder rule as compare to 5 fielder earlier
  • comparatively 2 new balls as their was only 1 when sachin, sehwag, yuvi use to bowl
  • Rohit has had surgey n is lazy
  • Kohli like dravid isnt a good captain with part timers, dhoni n ganguly were good
  • bats are strong, boundaries are shorter

all this has made life tough for part timers, a 6th bowler shud be someone whom u can atleast rely for 5 overs anytime...i see that only with krunal n shankar and jadhav till he gets figured out

Appreciate your very valid points but I do not think Rohit is lazy. He is hungry to play more and more. He is cricket fit. Generally, He bats through whole inning and dont show cramps.

4 fielder rule is effecting every bowler not just part timers,  Captain has to spend some time in nets to see if someone is bowling decent enough. Also for this to happen, captain must be smart enough to use them bowlers when opponent is milking or opponents chips are diwn and not smashing our bowling. If smashing, no harm in trying anpart timer for a over or two

Look at his fitness, the guy was lean and now damn fat ....i can understand this in 90s but in todays time that is not acceptable the way he has gained it

i can accept this from guys like jadhav as he was naturally not that fit but rohit was ....

dhoni is 37 and his fitness is outstanding, guys like rohit n raina shud not have any excuse of gaining weight

Hungry to play and working hard on ur game n fitness is different things, had rohit worked really hard their is no way that guy wud have been struggling in test with his talent

Kohli isnt the captain who is good with part timers, his captaincy is very text book.....so was dravid's

ganguly n dhoni were more instinctive captains and had the the right gut feel for part timers

Six pack gym/ Treadmills are not for everyone specially if you start late. You get tendons, knees and so on. Prrsonally, i spent 6-8 years fighting them injuries, before i got it going. That too, with help of some supplements. Lot of people i see in gym say the same.

With amount if cricket India plays, there is no chance you can fall into obese category of Raina or Rohit unless its genetic or medical condition

they dnt play all formats so they have time off which is when they go off programme and gain weight . Rohit has already mentioned he is a big foodie and doesnt train much in off season.....thats why he was also under yo-yo threat post his holiday this time

If he is such a foodie, then Rohit must have serious diabetic family history.:((

But no excuse in not taking precautions

Bk is a specialist bowler, so, he had no option but to improve. Pandya is an alrounder whose main suit is his bowling. Still even with bowling he has changed games.

It's a good thing, the number of part-timers have been going down in the recent years. It's kind of ugly to see these guys take up the role of a bowling. But thanks to T20s, now they are almost extinct.

Kohli should learn to play two all-rounders, six bowlers is the new standard in LOIs now.

Dhawan/Rohit/Kohli - Can't bowl.  Rahul/Karthik/Pandey/Rayudu - Can't bowl.   Fringe ODI players  Shaw/Gill/Agarwal - Can't bowl

To make matter worse our lower order has the worst batting skills since the days of Chandrasekar, Bedi. It is a perfect storm.

People i hoped to evolve as a bowler as they could bat decently

Shreyas Gopal

Vijay Shankar

Now this guy Abhishek sharma who was one of the bowler for us in the U19 hardly bowled last week. His role is defined as bowler. But he has opened the innings and scored 78 bowled only 3 overs the entire match. Ironically Ashwin is probably the 2nd best all rounder in India behind Pandya.

And despite that we seem to win many more matches now!

Compare the durations for which Kohli has been captain with the same duration before Kohli

In Tests, we have won 26 and lost 8 tests out of 42 tests played, W/L of 3.3. Prior to Kohli, same number was won 10, lost 10 in 26 tests!

In ODIs, during Kohli tenure won 35 lost 11 out of 49 ODIs, W?L of 3.2, before Kohli for 2 years it was 20 wi ns and 15 losses, W/L of 1.3

In T20s, its 23 wins, 8 losses during Kohli era, W/L of 2.9. Before Kohli it was 16 wins and 8 losses, w/l of 2.

So how exactly has the lack of 6th bowling options hurt us?
