VVS Laxman apprehensive

But while the Indian pacers are making all the right noises, former India batsman VVS Laxman is apprehensive about the bowling line-up in ODIs. The legendary batsman feels that India are too dependent on Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar.

“We have a settled batting unit, but I am not too sure on the bowling front,” he told The Times of India.

“I am happy with the bowlers’ recent show with the red cherry, but as for white-ball cricket I feel they are still not ready, mainly in the pace bowling department,” Laxman added. “We have good spinners in (Yuzvendra) Chahal and Kuldeep (Yadav), but we are too dependent on Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar) and (Jasprit) Bumrah in ODIs. Whenever these two have been injured, the team has suffered.”

Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah have become the lynchpin of India’s bowling attack in limited-overs cricket. The two have played 30 ODIs together so far in which Bumrah has returned 49 wickets at 24.16 while Bhuvneshwar has 34 wickets at an average of 36.70.

In fact, India have lost just one ODI series in their last 11 assignments. The defeat came in England this year. Interestingly, Bumrah missed the assignment with an injury while Bhuvneshwar played just one game.

Laxman is just biased for SRH players. He used to do same for Shikhar Dhawan too now will be fun since he left SRH to see if he keeps being biased for him.

lol what ? Without Bumrah and Bhuvi, Indian seam bowling in ODIs is non existent. Shami doesnt seem to be part of ODI setup.

Without bumrah. Bhuvi has done nothing to suggest that. Guy averages 38 ffs. No other team will play a front line bowler with such. Stats are worse against good teams and even ER is 6. In addition, selectors keep picking mediocre bowlers like shardul, chahar, kaul.

Dependant on bhuvi :giggle:

He is economical and bowls decently at the death which is a rare skill nowadays. Other seamers who have played for India in ODIs are much worse.

Seriously, bhuvi? He is only surviving because he bowls exceedingly well in death in IPL and only occasionally in Internationals. Good for t20. Need to move on from him in ODIs and tests.

No reason remains to persist with him,he doesn't even lasts 10 overs of lois cant have faith in him, quite similar to Jadhav he too has dodgy fitness

But ,then we dont have match ready backups, expecting him to be dropped once and for all after  wc
