Austin 3:!6 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 AB de Villiers retired from international cricket for South Africa almost a year ago and ever since has been plying his trade in various T20 leagues around the globe. After hanging his boots from the highest level, he made his comeback on the cricket pitch in the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) where the veteran captained the Tshwane Spartans. This year, he first played for the Mashrafe Mortaza-led Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League and then went on to represent the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League. However, above all, the 35-year-old believes that no league comes even close to the Indian Premier League where he is representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). It’s so intense, so fast ABD was so much in awe of the T20 tournament that he went on to say that it’s even grander than the World Cup. “Nothing comes close to the IPL, to be honest. I know I am sitting in India and busy playing in the IPL, so it’s easy to say. But I have played in quite a few (tournaments) now across the world. I think it’s better than the World Cup,” De Villiers was quoted as saying in Livemint.“It’s the most incredible tournament to be part of. It wasn’t always the case. The first five years were nowhere close to where we are now. It’s so intense, so fast, and the following is just incredible,” the Pretoria-born batsman added.De Villiers started his IPL career, playing for the Delhi Daredevils, now Capitals. After a few seasons, he moved to the Challengers and has become an indispensable member of their setup. RCB are already eliminated this season, but he has shown his class having scored 441 runs in 12 matches at an average of 49. He has five half-centuries to his credit with a top score of 82 not out against KXIP in Bengaluru. https://m.crictracker.com/ipl-is-better-than-the-world-cup-reckons-ab-de-villiers/ Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk AuxiliA and Zero_Unit 2
vvvslaxman Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Hope he refers to world T20. That i agree. International T20 should be discontinued. T20 is at its best when it is a franchise league. UrmiSinhaRay 1

Straight Drive Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 It is a very good statement for IPL as it comes from a world class T20 batsman who plays lots of T20 tournaments. A lot of foreign players have said similar things but his statement is obviously published more. Truly IPL has become a wonderful tournament. If RR and CSK would have been clean, IPL would have been at altogether another level. Wall2018 1
Khota Posted May 4, 2019 Posted May 4, 2019 IPL is a very good thing done by BCCI. I hope it expands to 16 teams with minor/farm leagues. Matches played in Dubai etc and there is nothing stopping it. This is the best thing that happened to Indian cricket.
