Spare a thought for Rohit negating the 2 new balls :p: once again underrated performance worth its weight in gold

Good openers negate the new ball and score freely as well. It is not mutually exclusive :winky:

Pant is way below someone like Subhman Gill, Agarwal.  Don't fall for his "half balanced" slogs in the IPL. He has no ability to rotate the strike. With such a long tail you need someone who can play multiple roles like building an innings and taking on the bowling. It is all about taking on the bowling in one dayers as you saw today with Dhoni and KL Rahul. You need to groom a proper batsman.

We missed a huge trick by not grooming Agarwal for both tests and ODIs.  He got into the test team due to an injury and has made it his own.  He also has an outstanding List-A record.  Problem of course is that he is projected as an opener and the Sharma-Dhawan pair is unshakable.  As for Gill, he got 2 chances, looked unconvincing at #3, and was forgotten when VK came back.

Anyway, it seems like we have an excellent bench to take over when the big post-WC purge happens.

2 chances in seaming conditions where our openers also failed. Kohli also failed in the last match. That is totally unfair. Everybody that has seen him rates him well. That includes Kohli.

Unless you are a Robot you cannot do all tasks 100% efficiently. A good opener negates new ball, provides good starts. A great opener negates, new ball, provides solid base and then goes ballistic and creates new records of set.

Todays innings was good not great but obviously greatness has been proved enough times that has even pushed the treshhold of what a normal human being is capable of.

Nightwatchman stuff .... No point in writing about your perception of "greatness" to those who think Rohit is a waste of space :winky:

Yes 3 200s,highest individual score, most 6s etc etc  and the all the other world records happened in my dreams

Every one remembers the fastest runner in the world and world record holder , no one remembers the guy consistently being no.2 in most races.

Agree, but it was inevitable.  Selectors were still in the midst of the Rayudu/DK/MSD/Pant/Shankar "Kaun Banega#4" musical chair games.  It didn't help that Rayudu scored a 100 (or close to...) in the same match that Gill debuted.  Again, looking forward to the big purge.

Given enough list of credentials in crunch games :winky:. Round robin stats don’t matter. Context matters in such games
