In the modern era, every bowler should be able to bat. And every team has bowlers that can bat. It is always useful in situations like these, or when there is a middle order collapse and you need useful runs. Bowlers need to chip in with runs or else their bowling becomes worthless, if there aren't enough runs to defend.
