We need to give him time.. good thing we have already qualified for semis . We should hope he comes good in knock outside and rectified flaws in next 2 games. Law of average will catch up with rohit and kohli, so if middle order freedom win next two matches who knows they can fire in KO's.

Can dhoni retire now???

He cannot be ,his game is very limited as of now.He has no go to shot other than his legside hoick.I was so disappointed with him yesterday, he just needed to play proper cricketing shots. It was Pant's first match, I was not expecting him to win the match but I wanted him to show his class as a batsman.

People here dismiss Jason Roy has hack but he has every shot in the book that makes him so hard to contain.

Roy plays in PP. You can't play every shot out of PP. Also Jason Roy isn't a youngster. Not may 21 year olds will have a complete game.

I know I saw them too, in tests he could wait for bad ball and he got away with some shots there also.I am one of his biggest supporter as I think he is going to be very good test batsman.

In odis he has not learnt ability to maneuver the strike.Granted it was his first match and he was under lot of pressure but he looked lost yesterday. You have to be cool in pressure situtations which Dhoni showed early in his career.Pant was like a cat on a hot tin roof yesterday.

Dhoni could be as bad. Remember his debut game run out.

Jayasurya often hardly had to move his body to hit a six. His forearms were like arms of many players. It was very strong. Also his slash, cut generally were fierce that fielders will have no chance. He could also loft.

Bowlers doesn't bowl bad ball these days for you to cut and slash.

That is some  forearm. VEin popping. Sometimes he hardly had any batswing when he hit some of his sixes. Pant has to develop his balance first. He cannot keep falling over every time.  If he had properly connected Pant would have cleared the boundary comfortably.

Pant's problem is he tries to hit too hard and in the process loses balance. It happens with young players as they think they need to through everything to hit big shots. But pant has natural power, so, he just needs to get his timing right and keep his balance.

Hope we get a coach who just drills the point about the importance of getting 1-2s into their game and playing shots using gaps in the filed and not depend on Brute power in every shot. (Already see a huge improvement in Hardik's game now)

Need to work on beow aspects :-

1. Consider Hardik & Pant as your top 5 bats post WC.

2. Strict instructions to play till  40-45 overs every match  for Hardik. Even 40% success rate would be great for india.

3. These 2 guys should  be made to play most of the time 11-45 overs whenever india is 2 down.

4. Batting position does not matter. move them between 4 & 5. If HP palys 2-3 matches at #4, use Pant in next 2-3matches . Just support them at 4 & 5 slot for atleast 20 ODIs without break and see the result and assess.

5. If both these players start exploiting the 4 fileders restriction outside the circle with placements , playing over the in fileds  with control and not brute force , they will become very dangerous due to their improved consistency and high strike rate .

6. To boot, they can go big if they want , but that aspect has to be controlled . No point in hitting every ball in the air and trying to hit only sexes.

2 Major strategy changes to be brought in battting for the team :-

 1. There should be atleast one opener who is given licence to play agrressively. Shed this logic of play very safe in first 10 overs.

 2. major focus of getting runs should be not last 10 overs but 11-40 overs cos  in that period q) some less than potent overs by 5th -6th bowlers.  b) only 4 fielders outside the  circle , exploit it by placements , controlled hitting over the infield.

We need really focus very hard on these , choose the best possible (not more 3-4 ) guys for 4 & 5 slots and give them a good 20-25 matches .

(my initial 4   guys would be Hardik, Pant, Gill & Shreyas)

Thts the way we have to build our middle order in about 2 years , not by choosing 8-10 players and give them 2 games here , then drop them and again select and give another 2 games.

Past mistakes should not be repeated.

Roy scores outside PP too.I agree not every 21 year is complete package.Pant has all the ability in the world, he just needs to remain calm.I felt he let situation effect his game yesterday. He has the ability to score a 60 ball 100.

I have not seen many youngsters playing with uncluttered mind under this TM. TM has let these youngsters play their natural game.

You have to remember Pant is Indian test keeper and has played in many big games. He has done very well.He is new to odis not to the Indian team and certainly not the situation or crowd. He played in front of bigger crowds. He looked very uneasy yesterday.

Dhoni never had the ability of Pant.Pant can score 15 plus test 100s.He should have 4 test 100s by now if was little more careful.

the problem is that pant finds himself confused in ODIs, and T20Is to a lesser extent. In Tests (excluding lyon), he showed good awareness of what balls to defend or leave alone, and what balls to attack. he was also helped by the fact that not many men are on the boundary of tests, thus allowing some of his mishits to go for 4. In IPL, he has been successful because there are clear targets to set/chase and bowlers to attack. when it comes to ODIs, I feel that he lacks the mental clarity to know whether to treat it as a T20 or a Test.

I reckon that Pant is someone who can do a good job upfront because most fielders are within the circle, thus allowing his high-risk shots to succeed. Like Gilly, he should be batting at 6 or 7 in tests but at opening in ODIs.

I agree, let him open and get Mayank at no4.Let Rahul play shots from ball one as if he is playing IPL at no6.That will lengthen batting lineup nicely

I'm assuming you would go with Mayank, Dhoni, Rahul, Pandya at 4-7. the main issue is that Pandya cannot be trusted to bowl 10 overs cheaply and at least one of the bowlers will have an off-day. our lack of 6th bowler will be horribly exposed. If Jadhav is played up the order, I think he can do okay especially against Bang and SL. Would like to see Mayank, Jadhav, Pandya, Bhuvi and Dhoni at 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. It's harsh on KLR, but he has not looked in a good space mentally over the past 2 innings.

You can't have both.Kohli,Mayank have to do that job of filling in.Jadhav has hardly bowled any overs.

jadhav is a part-timer and nothing more, but mayank and kohli are not even that. their bowling ability is comparable to lara or sunny G; they are not like srt, sehwag, raina, ganguly, etc.

anyway, I have a feeling TM have decided to make jadhav the scapegoat for our loss, and we will probably see him discarded in the next match.

Please keep Rishabh Pant away from ODIs.. the guy is very limited.. leg side hoicks.. and lazy runner between the wicket.. Pant may be 15 years younger than Dhoni but Dhoni would still beat him running between wickets.. he is like a younger version of Gayle who can't move fast.. He could be little useful in T20 but that's about it or may be little better on flat pitches but.. You'll get Swing and a miss, edges and one good hoick in leg on descent pitches..

And notice how he keeps coughing in multiple games.. that tells me he is not fit enough..

Unfortunately, he'll be our wicketkeeper in Tests.. God it will be awful..

Get Dinesh Karthik please..

Sure but Jadhav has hardly got to bat. He saved us with bat in that Afghan game.

You mean that same opener who scored a 100 against you in the Champions Trophy 2017?

Yes the same guy who wets his pants every time he sees a green wicket.

Persist with him till the KOs and I'm sure he will do something special this WC. A bit unfair to judge him on a two-paced wicket with the team needed 9 an over.

Still did better than MSD though:phehe:
