putrevus Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 He cannot be ,his game is very limited as of now.He has no go to shot other than his legside hoick.I was so disappointed with him yesterday, he just needed to play proper cricketing shots. It was Pant's first match, I was not expecting him to win the match but I wanted him to show his class as a batsman. People here dismiss Jason Roy has hack but he has every shot in the book that makes him so hard to contain.
philcric Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Kaluwitharana was a terrible ODI batsman. Averaged 22.
maniac Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 It’s a simple yes or no question. looks like a straight forward question but it was such a mind fk I had absolutely no clue what to answer
coffee_rules Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Why do we need, when we have the greatest ODI opener ever, with 3 200s in ODIs.
vvvslaxman Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 No. Kalu was a keeper. Pant is not. Even Gilly was a keeper. He always maintained as a keeper he didn't value his wicket. So he played with freedom. Moment you become a specialist batsman you gotta play a bit more responsibly. If Dhoni wants to sit out, he can be used as a pinch hitter.

His forearms were like arms of many players. It was very strong. Also his slash, cut generally were fierce that fielders will have no chance. He could also loft.

Doesn't matter how ,he holds bat if he can score centuries at test level against teams like Australia and England ..He can do anything. Vijy and Mosher 2

Pant has to develop his balance first. He cannot keep falling over every time. If he had properly connected Pant would have cleared the boundary comfortably.

I know I saw them too, in tests he could wait for bad ball and he got away with some shots there also.I am one of his biggest supporter as I think he is going to be very good test batsman. In odis he has not learnt ability to maneuver the strike.Granted it was his first match and he was under lot of pressure but he looked lost yesterday. You have to be cool in pressure situtations which Dhoni showed early in his career.Pant was like a cat on a hot tin roof yesterday. Tattieboy Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Why not play him, get him in the right batting position, work out a game plan for how he plays and convey that you have real real confidence in him and be the first Pant and not any nonsense of anybody else .
