If India has to chase 300 plus.Rohit, Kohli have score to 100s . Pandya has done very well but can he take bigger role . It becomes easier if he can do it.

Pandya cannot just stand in his cross legged stance and try hoicking everything to midwicket or extra cover arc. He needs more range, more awareness to play the ball on merit.

I have not seen him play knocks like Ben Stokes yet. However I am happy to see his bowling has improved and he has been more than valuable as the only hitter in the side.

Still a work in progress but hope he doesn’t remain an Afridi. We want a genuine allrounder in the Kapil Dev mould.

^^ Stokes is technically better than Pandya. Yesterday also his SR kept on dropping as innings progressed.Pandya should be better than staying deep in the crease and trying to hit everything in front of wicket.

One thing is sure ball is jumping from his bat, he is able to beat fielders even when they are close to his shots.

Stokes bats at 5, Pandya 7. There is a huge difference in their roles. Even stokes can't hit from the get go. Stokes got enough time to settle in. Unlike Pandya who has to throw his bat around every time he comes in to bat. I thought instead of Pant, it should have been Pandya so he could get more overs when just four fielders are outside the circle. Our strategy has been wrong. We should sent our big hitters before 40 overs so that they can make use of  field restrictions.

Do you think TM if they thought Pandya is able to score big would have sent him at no4.Right now they are thinking Pandya will score quick cameo. They have been consistent in promoting Pandya for cameo roles.

Nobody said Pandya has to bat at 7. They are slotting him at those slot because they think he is good only for cameos.

Which is not right. Pandya has hardly batted when he has over left. When he did, he got MOS and won us two games. He is hardly getting any overs to settle. And our TM has been proved wrong umpteen times. They are no experts in judging players.  The mess we are in is their doing.

Kohli might be a great bat but he is  the worst captain in terms of team building.

Stop with MOS two years back. There also he never scored  at 150 plus SR .He hardly could put bat on ball for whole series in SA.He has played so many test matches. Ability to bat is much more evident with Stokes than Pandya.Nobody stopped Pandya from scoring 70 plus yesterday. His SR kept on dropping as innings went on, yes Dhoni did not help his cause at all.

One thing which is very impressive from Pandya is his power, he just needs to harness it to score bigger runs.I want him to take bigger role.If he is able to bat at no5 he adds Indian batting another dimension. Can they change his role in next few matches.

Dhoni is never going to get India to win chasing 300 plus totals batting at no5.He never had that capability .

It’s a double edged sword if Pandya comes in the 28 th over and gets out by 30th, our lower order “hitters” will be tuk tuking for 20 overs with no one to accelerate

if he bats higher up the order, this will bump dhoni to 6 and jadhav at 7. neither of them are the type of batsmen who can score rapidly from ball 1. It will be necessary to experiment with someone like DK in place of jadhav and tell him to play the game as a T20 and not an ODI (where he sucks). however, this still leaves dhoni. IMO, the best solution is to bat dhoni at 8 and bhuvi at 7. however, if early wkts fall and the pitch is bowling friendly, mr. tuk-tuk can come in at 4 or 5 and grind a 50-odd.

maybe the right order is pant, rohit, kohli, KLR/Mayank, Pandya, DK, Bhuvi, Dhoni.

With DK and Pant to come we should be okay. Pandya in his current form has to be utilised more. We must be brave.

He could have easily scored 70 yesterday but he played for the team.  Also,150 sr is needed in t20s not in ODIs. Pandya has the highest SR in this WC. When you don't have lot of overs to bat, you are just in slogging mode and you just become a slogger.

That is exactly my thought. Pandya is not just a six hitter. He can hit through the ground powerfully. Fielders can't field even if misses them by a feet.  For that to happen India needs 2 more finishers down the order. Who can be better than KKD and Pant. Dhoni can be the consolidator or dot ball king whatever. Others can atleast play freely. If KL Rahul keeps scoring dot balls send him at 7 and force him to play aggressively.
