What would be your playing XI for the New Zealand ODI series?

Seems to me that at best he is a No 7 batsman at international level. He should be allowed to bat at 7 and then if he does well gradaully move him up the order.

Problem with that is 3 fold.

1)  A number 7 batsman should be a passable bowler who can bowl atleast 7 overs. Dube is not such a bowler. And we don't have such a bowler in the top 6 even.

2)  Dube at 7 won't give us a 6th bowling option.

3)  By batting at 7, he may not get much chance to prove his mettle as a batter.

With dhawan out for even SA odi series, shaw can be given a run in all these 6 games and if they want rahul in middle he can also settle there with consistent games

This could be the beginning of the end for Dhawan. Iam pretty sure Shaw will do what's necessary.

This is not going to happen as Kohli has clearly mentioned Rahul is going to keep but again there is nothing stopping from Pant playing just as batsman if the TM wants it.

What is the point of keeping with Rahul when Pant is in the X1. He is our backup test keeper. wouldn't that be embarrassing to have a part-timer keep ahead of him?

Either he plays as a keeper-bat or sits out.

Shaw

Rohit ( If rested, open with Pant/KL.This way Both Dubey & Iyer can play)

Pant(WK)

Dubey/Iyer

KLR ( bats at higher SR if he comes to bat after 30 overs.Tends to bat slow in top 3 in ODIs)

Jadeja (Should be given more batting time & see how he fares)

Kohli (Nothing to gain by him batting in top 4)

Kuldeep

Shami

Saini

Bumrah(if rested play Chahal)

This batting order is unlikely. Bewda & Kohli will pick Manish over Pant.Rohit & Kohli will bat in top 3 & play most overs giving others few chances to bat.

1. Rohit

2. Shaw

3. Kohli

4. Iyer

5. Rahul

6. Dube

7. Jadeja

8. Shami

9. Kuldeep

10. Saini

11. Bumrah

----  Rahul must be tried at 5 ... and his keeping skills tested too.

---- Ideal time to try Shaw as an opener.

----  Dube needs to be checked out too as a No.6 batsman.

---- Shami and Kuldeep should practice some batting.

very reasonable team but jaddu has little hitting prowess. what he can do (thanks to what he has learnt in tests) is to work the ball around, and tonk some of the 2nd-string bowlers. hence, it seems better to play him at 6 and dube at 7. at least dube seems more capable of striking the ball better. to your list, I would also add that we should give iyer 1-2 overs here and there to see how he bowls.

Shaw doing well in A games in NZL.... most probably would get the nod in  ODIs .....Can be our next all format batsman unless the TM destroys him.

they will certainly do their best. and shaw will probably assist him by doing stupid things like doping or getting unfit - he is already starting to look like a little balloon.

We should " niggle out " Jadeja and try Axar at No.7 in the upcoming ODI series.

Nowadays, Axar is a better hitter and faster starter with the bat than Jadeja. And economical with the ball too.

yes, I suspect that axar is a better ODI batter and bowler than Jaddu. perhaps jaddu and pandu should just play every match... as sub fielders.
