sandeep Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 Raoul looks a million dollars against pace bowlers, has no problem stepping through the gears and massacring them for boundaries. However, he has a serious and persistent issue with figuring out his game-plans against spin. His first extended run in ODI cricket came at #4, where he was repeatedly dismissed by SL spin, especially early in his innings. Even his debut test innings saw him dismissed to a silly shot played against a spinner. Since then, we have seen him burst out of the starting blocks like a super-charged Tesla, but repeatedly meander into a Fiat Padmini in the 'middle' stage against spin. At times, you can clearly see him attempting to play within himself, and set himself for the big innings - can't blame him for that, he knows quite well that he's not in the "senior" cabal yet, and needs to put big scores to firm up his position in the team as a starter. At other times, you see him 'go hard' early and get himself out. To me, it doesn't seem to be a technical deficiency or an inability to play spin competently - its more of a mental problem where he's not able to clear his mind and commit to a batting method against spin. This is an area where I expect teams to test him more and more, along with the well-disguised slower one at back of a length by medium-pacers. He has been caught in the in-field off mis-timed shots and leading edges, a number of times already. These 2 are the only available weaknesses for the opposition to target. The rest of his batting game looks assured and sorted. velu 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 In SL it was akila dananjaya mystery spinner ....his novelity caused him trouble. The next time he faced him he scored. The only issue i see is ever since his return he is a lil conscious while attacking them also not standing as straight as he use to. If he remains conscious he ll start to have same issues as dhoni had against spin . But as of now i dont see any big issue...he is surely getting out to them but its not alarming like iyer short ball problem. This is where anaylst shud come in see what exactly he is doing wrong. We have seen in past he has destroyed spinners in ipl or evn in that 199 against england. nevada 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 As of now my only 3 concerns about him 1. Not having a fixed positions in odi 2. Bangar in commentary told he discussed with KL for odi that even if he scored 18-20 runs in 1st 10 overs in odis as he can still get a 100 by 40 overs. Now why wud u give a pattern to player like him. He shud play his natural game. Surely he has more time in ODi but doesnt mean he ll take it all. 3. Getting out in t20 after 40-50 a lot but this will work out very soon sure.
jusarrived Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 He has similar issues Virat had few years back , could chase down any total but relatively clueless when batting first . I think KL struggles when he does not have a set target , he consciously tries to slow down as that’s a text book thing to do after PPs . I think he should approach batting like English openers , not try to become like Sharma or Virat . Had he done that , he would have may be got a 100 or 2 in this series . nevada 1

It’s not ok to get 18-20 in first 10 even if you score a 100 eventually .

Which is why i was wondering why is he batting so slow in ODI and the same guy bats at 145 s.r in t20 nevada 1

Unfortunately 2 biggest players in the team are more of a safety first approach batsmen and with their success , I guess that’s the only template recommended by coach for other batsmen . nevada 1
vvvslaxman Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 It is applicable for most of our batsmen. Nobody is at the level of Sehwag.
SUMO Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 IMO Iyer is better at no.4 if two wickets fall before 30 overs. He can rotate strike very well against spinner and clear boundaries easily if bowled in his arc. Rahul can be utilised better in last 15-20 overs, this will give him time to get set for last 10 overs slog. Since he is not a regular wk, shouldnt be burdened with batting majority of the innings. Rahul pant pandya can be solid finishers if they are handled well before next WC. nevada 1
velu Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 told this multiple times.. he is pretty weak vs spin comparatively ..

No wonder he lost his way by curbing his natural instinct to go after the bowlers. In 2016-17, he was at his best natural game. F U Bangar.
