He was second highest wicket taker in 2017-18 behind Gurbani and consistently done well for A team,he has got control ,pace ,had a decent season before is that not enough to give him a break in internationals?

And you are talking about ipl while observing his test bowling skills , he's a damn good bowler,we shouldn't be wasting opportunity on an over the hill Umesh

This is 2020. Despite all the hype his strike rate in domestic is 60.  Avesh khan 44, Prasid Krishna 44 Gurbani 47 Sandeep warrier 52.  Umesh has a test match strike rate of 50. He has so far played only in Australia not in SA or NZ.  Ishant played 7 of the 8 matches that Umesh played in Australia. He averages exactly the same as Umesh in Australia.  They mostly bowled to guys like Warner, Ponting, Clarke, Smith, Hussey on flat roads.  Pretty sure Saini would have been taken apart as well there.

Now a six. Shaw is definitely a sehwag rather than Tendulkar.  If Indian team management is willing to accept that he can be a game changer.  He won't be consistent. But when he comes off he can damage the opposition badly.

They have to do what they did against Australia. INdia was relentless with no loose balls. Ishant played a very big part. He gave absolutely nothing away. We will miss his services badly.  Both Umesh and Saini every now and then will ease the pressure.

Good outing today.  If bowlers fire,  it always helps teams to claw back into games like today.  Good signs that Shami and Bumrah are slowly getting into rhythm. Openers also getting back to confidence.  India will go into the first test positively now. That's why tour matches are so important. However we have brat and bevda always say the opposite that tour matches are good for nothing etc..  Chewts

We need to win the toss and bowl first unlike India where batting first is the norm. The toss in the first test will be decisive. If NZ wins  the toss they will be favorite to win the match. Then in the second test they will create a flat pitch to take toss out of equation and draw that match and win the series. However things will be interesting if India wins the toss and elect to bowl.
