Graham Gooch was an opener for England with high backlift ( where the ball swings the most) and he was one of their most prolific batsmen. Smith dont have a copybook technique either and he is the number one batsman in Test these days. So you cant dismiss Prithvi Shaw unless he gets a few tours in SENA.

Prithvi Shaw debuted in Ranji when he was 17 years old and scored a century against Tamilnadu which is one of the strongest teams. His FC average out of 20 matches is 61.73 with 9 centuries. Abhimanyu Eswaran (who is another good opening prospect) has an average of 45 out of 60 matches in comparison. That should show him how good he was in Ranjis. Plus the players who played against him and selectors would be knowing how good he is more than the stats we keyboard-warrior fans see.
