Why is Ravindra Jadeja not the de facto spinner in all tests ?

This is the third time in the last three tougher tours that he's done well after replacing Ashwin, who btw is just not that great on these tours. He makes contributions with the bat (averaged ~ 63 in 2019), is outstanding in the field and manages to get a few wickets even on a green top.

Those claiming he's a darter should watch Grandhomme's dismissal in a loop. He has sufficient variety & skill to bowl in tests on all surfaces. Its not like our spinners have historically taken an bucketload of wickets in all SENA games. Until that amazing wristie comes along, this guy needs to be played.

His fielding talks for itself. Wagner's catch was one of the ATG ones.

Well for one ICF, reddit, PP & all the *in experts think that Ashwin is more "talented" & has more variety. Except a few games last year at home, Jadeja has consistently outperformed Ethical mind on flat surfaces since his comeback in 2015. You can check the scoreboards or go watch the actual matches, Ashwin is a dope & doesn't have enough "heart" on such surfaces. As far as I'm concerned, barring his 2015-16 purple patch, Jadeja has been the better bowler & way better batter+fielder than the overrated "talent" :whack3:

Ashwin looked in better form at home but I thought he was the right choice for the 1st game. However, Jadeja though no magician, has underlined the fact he brings lot more to the team in these conditions.

Ashwin continues to disappoint and he should never be in contention for overseas tests again. Proven failure.

Because he isn't that good a test spinner overseas, too many soft wickets. But he is a brilliant fielder and much improved batsman, last 2 years has also enjoyed fair amount of luck. He and Kuldeep (or another wildcard wristie) should go to Australia, no need of 3rd spinner.

PS- In white ball cricket he remains a big liability though. I don't understand this TM, they confuse formats so much.

Because on ICF it is a sacrilege to say bad things about Ashwin. Some of the posters might attack you for north, east, west, central India bias. (Let us include Andaman and Nicobar too).

We need wicket taking leg spinners in overseas test matches.  It's time.

With the pace battery we have, I feel it is better to have a role-payer - someone to keep things so tight for the batsmen that the wicket-taking fasties will benefit from it.  He must also bring other things to the table - bat decently and field well.  The current version of Jadeja is 2.5/3, only needing a bit more consistency in SENA batting.

Of course, if we get a superstar wrist (leg or china) spinner who can run through sides, it changes the equation.  Really thought Kuldeep was that guy, but ...

I'm tired of waiting for that messiah which bowls/bats and fields and solves all our problems. Now i'll settle for somebody who does his primary job of taking wickets.
