Dhoni vs kohli captaincy in SENA with same set of players

We often compare captains with result but with different set of players....but lets see how 2 captain did with almost same set of players

Comman players that featured in both captains team in a SENA cycle

Vijay

Dhawan

Rohit

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane

Ashwin

Jadeja

Ishant

Shami

Results in SENA with same set of players.

( These set dont include results when dhoni had greats in team like sachin dravid laxman, only same set of players)

In SA

Dhoni - 0-1

Kohli - 1-2

In Nz

Dhoni - 0-1

Kohli - 0-2

In eng

Dhoni - 1-3

Kohli - 1-4

In aus- ( kohli captained 2 test in 2015 series as well)

Dhoni 0-1

Kohli 0-1 (in 2014-15)

Kohli 2-1 ( in 2018-19)

Now lets see which captain had how many players in form under both captain

Dhawan n rohit - failed under both, only diff is dhoni found out by giving chance and kohli gave chance even after finding out that they were bad.

Vijay - better during dhoni

Pujara - was in better form in his SENA cycle under kohli

Rahane - better form under dhoni

Kohli - had one bad tour of england under dhoni and NZ under himself.

Ishant - got his mojo back after county season so kohli had that benefit.

Shami - was in better form n fitness under kohli.

BK - if im not wrong has struggled with injuries under both .

Umesh - bad under both

Ashwin - jaddu - jaddu was better overseas during kohli.

Keeper batsman - pant did better then dhoni

Bumrah - huge plus for kohli

Pandya vs binny - binny saved a test during dhoni in england, pandya won a test during kohli.

For all the credit kohli gets for his captaincy well and flak that dhoni gets , with same set of players he didnt do much apart from australia which is taken with a pinch of salt with warner n smith absence. Against same team same series 0-1 was achieved by both. Kohli definately had a better bowling attack and pujara, rahane, kohli , ishant, shami, ashwin, jadeja, bk , umesh, dhawan , rohit as far more experienced player then they were under dhoni.

It is good to change captains after a few years esp. if things are not improving or happening .... No one is captain for the life of his career

Time for  Captain Pujara to take over the mantle

Aus still had Its best attack and beat Ind at Perth, where Pujara did not hit a 100, therefore if not for Pujara, who gave Ind the edge, Ind could have lost in Aus too irrespective of Smith-Warner’s absence

This is a key discussion and points to the fact again that Kohli is neither able to get the best out of experienced established players not has developed any new talent.

Since last five years in tests no new Pacers have established in squad. In batting only Mayank to some level has been given some chances. Shaw is playing this series only because Rohit is injured.

So, that's ONE player in last 5 years that Kohli has groomed in tests. Don't know when he will lose patience with him as well.

Like they say, it's insanity to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Virat could'nt win sh*t with RCB, neither did he with the national team. time to move on and replace his captaincy with another/try something new.

Kohli has groomed and shown more faith than Dhoni in the seam bowling unit. Except Shardul Thakur, all the other choices have done well. But he has lost the plot totally when it comes to batting and spinners.

Thats another myth. Dhoni showed faith in shami, ishant, bhuvi .....he never had same faith in umesh n aaron and under kohli aaron is nowere and umesh is in an out.

Groom pace unit??? They all matured over years which is a normal process

Ishant growth was due to county and improved wrist position

Shami was due to experience n fitness

Umesh was always good at home.

If anything under kohli 2 years of saini n siraj are already wasted and someone like shardul has been overplayed. He is yet to understand that umesh isnt good outside india.

As bad as Dhoni became after the2011 WC, from 2008-11, he was quite good, despite backing his CSK buddies. Getting Dada and Dravid our of ODIs for youngsters, picking Umesh and Ashwin, backing Kohli and Rohit there were lots of positives. He tattered that legacy in the last 3-4 years when ideally he should have been sacked in 2012.

Kohli on the other hand has never tried to build a legacy, has not backed a single young player and will end his captaincy soon without any legacy and negligible global achievement except bully teams at home.

The backing of CSK buddies also started after 2011. Maybe captaincy power and success got into his head..

With Kohli though, it is only captaincy power and no success

Here is another way of looking at Dhoni. Regardless of how much he declined, wtv his decision was on who to back, who to drop or wtv his records were, India won every single possible trophy under his leadership. Thus making him a successful captain. Comparing Dhoni to Kohli's captaincy doesn't make sense to me. One accomplished everything under his name, another can't even lift a tamasha league's cup after almost a decade.

In tests, Dhoni was a sh1t captain...Kohli is proving to be more sh1ttier... Essentially it all started with Dhoni's captaincy in SENA.. Indian teams started focussing more on home tests and LOIs and started worrying less about away tours. At least with Ganguly era, the results were not great but they had a serious intention to win.

It has taken one series to wake up so many who used to say ‘Kohli has led us to no. 1 rank and is our greatest ever captain’.

That the guy was always a pretender, relying on individual brilliance, had become apparent after the SA and Eng tours in 2018. Has been a journey downhill since then.
