Yoda-esque Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Started watching Babur on Hotstar.Just as I thought, A nice bastardization to portray this savage as a humane person . Shows Babur pining for India lol.The man was kicked out of Ferghana and Kabul and India was his last resort. Funniest is showing a person with mongoloid features as Indian That's how history is mutilated

Bollywood is basically clueless when it comes to realism. Anyways series is a huge waste of time.. They completely botched the history. Whatta waste of potential.... Although graphics & lavish sets are only saving grace to this web show.

Or that Sultan of Delhi from Padmavat like Ranveer Singh. Did Emperor Ashoka look like SRK? Pran played the Mongol(ian?) Halaku. They had a CGI parrot in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon and an unkown actor under a blue kambal playing an Alien (jaadu) in Koi Mil Gaya. This can't be grounds for serious criticism. Are you telling me that a no name (in India) Uzbeg actor is going to draw as many eyeballs as a Bollywood mainstay? The producer has to cast marketable people. This isn't a documentary.

Ben Hur which won 65498598378 Oscars had a white man playing Jesus (PBUH), who was Middle Eastern. You cast for the market. Its a movie. Should be treated as such. It's not a scholastic treatise. No, that's not what I said. They can get Kunal Kapoor and they should at least do some slant eye work, give him a scrawny beard patches and a goatee. They have made him look like a Shampoo ad model with flowing hair and perfectly stylized beard.

I am no MUA, but my guess is that close ups are low on expressions when there is a lot of make up/ work done on the face. I speak from experience here. coffee_rules 1

Really? I thought his face was hidden/blacked out. He had a tanned skin that of middle-easterners. I have not seen the new one, but the old original one.

Not criticizing on those grounds at all,I have explained in an earlier post about this serial whitewashing his barbarism. And BTW K asif was pretty close in his portrayal of Akbars look in the film.Accounts say that Akbar was stocky with broad shoulders, had a sharp nose, a mole on the nose and nutty complexion.Atleast he bore a general resemblance to the original visage unlike Kunal Kapoor did for Babur. From what I've read, K asif picked Prithviraj Kapoor to play Akbar for his booming voice and generally good command over Urdu. Court historians apparently mention that Akbar had a 'buland' voice.

This is cultural appropriation The problem doesnt lie with maker its with buyers OTT, Studio heads, channel heads have no imagination or creativity .....if you tell them something original they wnt get it . You have to show them a ref and that to something thats current For eg If you want to make Mughal e Azam today and you say ull keep everything in terms of look how K asif did ...they ll show u the door saying that wont work Now how will it work is if you say we ll have look which includes look of characters as well like GOT or how Bhansali does . Thats what will click with them and they ll fund you. Thats why if you see Empire trailer closely their is a lot of Padmavat visual . Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) @coffee_rules- let me show u how u sell it This is what is shown in presentation as ref- telling the funder or producer that this is what we ll create End result Another Example Ref- copy Ab agar it doesnt look like Ref to producer bolega dikhaya kuch aur kiya kuch aur , he ll accuse of cheating If they show the original , they lack imagination so they ll refuse it saying its to ugly no one will see it . To babar babar lagega na lage but usko Jon snow jaise lagna zaruri nhin to paise nhin milenge If you wanna sell a historic show say we ll make GOT with mix of padmavat and they ll listen to .At the end its a profession, if you arent able to sell you wnt get fund and their ll be no work Edited September 2, 2021 by Ankit_sharma03 Lord and coffee_rules 2
Yoda-esque Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 I really have a yearning to see historical made in the language of its time. For example, I loved passion of the Christ in Aramaic.Theres just something amazingly primitive that lends credence to the whole setting. Becusse its historical fiction and not history school books. Historical fiction only uses characters in name but are fantasy works. There are a million such historical fictions all over the world, but i have only seen indians crying about it lately
Yoda-esque Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 I suspect that this series was made to partly snatch back narrative from the Panipat,Bajirao and Tanaji type of movies that have been made off late, which glorify local heroes. No doubt to try and portray Mughals as nation builders .I do expect a series on Jehangir,Shah Jehan and Akbar as well.
