Ind in Aus 2020-21 General Discussion Thread

For comments that do not necessarily merit its own thread. 

 

Atm, I am not too excited about this series, maybe since it is just after IPL. But when we get closer to the start, certain level of interest could creep in as I tend follow Ind in SENA and also the WTC angle. 

 

Below is the squad, which has been discussed on other threads, for quick reference:

The schedule: Link  ODIs -> T20s -> Tour Games -> Test Matches 

 

ODIs, T20s & Tour Games are to be played in Sydney w/ a couple of games in Canberra. Test Matches venues are Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane. 

 

 

A few gripes w/ the squad selection: 

 

• Bumrah & Shami could have been rested for ODIs & T20s (a regular bilateral) so they could focus on the test series (WTC)
• In LOIs, Iyer & Pandey are competing with likes of SKY, Samson and Kishan so will be interesting to see how they progress 
• Kohli will play only the first test. Before the test series, Ind plays two practice games, so basically, we are wasting 3 games on a player not playing 75% of the series. These 3 games could have been used to prep a batsman likely to play the remaining 3 games. In short, Kohli could have skilled the entire test series 
• Rahane as VC in Tests could backfire if he plays for "angles", potentially blocking one spot as he would be the captain for the next 3 tests. On the other hand, an opportunity for him to do well as well

Kohli will probably skip the practice matches like he usually does. 

 

Personally I feel that they should have followed west indies and pakistan and scheduled two practice matches with two teams from indians squad- kohlis team and rahane team. They could use some t20 and odi players to fill in the teams. This way every player can get adequate red ball practice before test series starts. Right now 11/17 players can play the practice matches which means saini/siraj may not play which means they will be going blindly into the test series in case they debut

If kuldeep doesnt play on this tour then send him to domstic after this , he has been on bench or injured in between for far to long. When will he play cricket

For those on EST, the last 3 tests have the best time slot as they begin at 6 30 PM .... ODIs and 1st test start at 10 30 and 11 PM respectively, while T20s at 3 AM

Siraj should've been in ODI squad..  I think.  Bumrah & Shami should play only few LOIs & stay fit for Tests.  Samson can be given at no 6 in ODIs over Pandey..  & bat at Top 3 in T20s.

New outbreak in Adelaide today. 17 cases have been identified. We might see Adelaide test happening behind the closed door if more cases emerge later this week.

Eagerly waiting for this test series. if India manages to win this trophy like last year, it will be great fun. Guess the two contesting teams top the test rankings, don't they ?

It depends on respective states. As of now 100% capacity in Queensland is allowed from yesterday.
Rest of states were planning between 25 to 75%.

I think India is ranked 3rd now after Aus and NZ. Just one point difference

Just cross checked on the ICC website.You are correct about the rankings. Aus and NZ ahead of India.

If NZ wins all those home games vs Pak,  WI & India fails to win a single test in Aus.  Then It'll be curtains for WTC final indeed.  Even cricinfo has confirmed it.

If India fails to win atleast one test in Aus, we don't deserve to play in the final anyways
