So, it's a popular opinion on ICF that one of the biggest reason behind India losing away tours is that Virat Kohli and Shastri do not select the most appropriate eleven.

Although the thread is mainly targeted towards Test cricket there's no harm in discussing blunders in lois too.

 

This thread aims at comparing the most popular eleven posted by ICF members vs The team selected by Kohli.

 

Also as we all know Kohli will leave Australia after First match, so we will also take a look at how the new Captain(Rahane or Sharma) performs as far as selecting team is concerned.

The biggest blunder has already been made - Kohli as LOI captain

One blunder I can see them make is play Manish Pandey instead of Pandya. Since pandya is not bowling right now, they will probably think pandey is better as specialist batsman because of the century he made few years ago in Aus. However he made that 100 coming at 4 and he wont be much use at 6.. so if they select pandey we will most likely not get to par score because of his lack of power game in the death overs

One other blunder I am hoping they would make is select Thakur for one of the ODIs. He will get tonked but atleast be exposed that he is not international quality. They might go for him at 7 since he is supposed to be an "allrounder" and he will weaken both our bowling and batting lineup

If we want to rest Bumrah and Shami in some matches there's no choice but to play shardul and chahar. 

Picking them in squad was itself a wrong move.

Nah, i think  kohli will go with Pandya. He is the blue eyed boy of indian cricket.

Selecting Thakur is inexplicable.  At least Chahar has something going for him as a guy who can really move the ball, and has legit potential with the bat, relative to where he bats.

For the ODIs, I expect Bumrah & Shami to (should) be rotated unless the series is tied 1-1 & both play the 3rd one. Thakur & Saini are the other bowlers 

 

I feel that the selectors should have done a combined squad of 20 for ODIs & T20s esp. since they are all there and in quarantine scenario it is difficult to source quick replacements

1.I expect to see Siraj in the first test  The only thing going against him is the fact that he is a debutant. 

2.I really don't know why Shardul keeps getting selected. I am sure some lobby is pushing him in because he has no connection with Virat or Shastri.

Rohit Sharma is missing but most important thing is that bowlers are still searching for right length.

Dhawan was great in ipl so can't question his selection although  irealise that we have better players than him

In ODIs. Iyer didn’t set the match on Fyre

Dhawan, Pandey, Thakur , need to be away from T20 team.on immediate priority . Even if replacements fail , persist with them for some time .

 

Ideally Samson , SKY , Varun  should be part of Indian T20 along with Natrajan.

 

Iyer should be on notice to go out & Pant & Shaw should on Notice to come in after testing them for some matches .
