This thread is for those who haven't drunk the kool-aid on "phasst"ness, those who still retain the mental capacity to appreciate a champion bowler who can move the ball like a magician, without any easy noticeable 'tell' for the batsmen to pick it up.

 

The man who was Man of the Series in his last test tour to England, and not just for his lion-hearted carrying of the bowling attack. 

 

Relevant to the current shambles that the Indian team and some of you are experiencing, I'd like to point out his ODI stats in the last 3 years.

 

36 games, Economy rate of 5.22.  47 wickets.  Averaging more than a wicket per  game, respectably around 30 runs per wicket.  Economy rate that is priceless in 350 par games.  

 

oh and by the way, he just has to turn up at the top of his bowling mark for Aaron Finch to stain his pants a dark yellow. The bunny-ness is as predictable as it is reliable.  Bhuvi in Australia in the last 3 years?  The land of road wickets?  Economy rate of 4.96.  8 wickets in 3 games @17.  

 

Here's to one of the unsung heroes of modern Indian cricket, my favorite bowler for whom I am unashamedly biased.  

 

Take a bow, Bhuvi.  You are being missed.  And even by those who claim not to "rate" you.

his performance in aus wont be repeated with this batting lineup. Some one posted his record against top 4 sides, its just as poor as bumrah.. avg of 39 I believe. Didn't do much in WC in the land of swing either. Its Shami who is our unsung hero all these years and even he is out of form now

He has stopped swinging the ball, slow

mover in the field, at best a batsmen who can play a supporting act in collapse and bowls harmless knuckle balls and generic 135ks or May be early 140 on a good day. Top of that always injured. Time to move on.

 

In 90’s he would have been a mainstay but now we have bowlers like him In every Gully mohallah in India. 
 

Good servant of Indian cricket, maximized his potential but time to stick a fork and move on. What’s the point if he keeps getting injured in crucial games, series and tournaments, bhagaao isko.

He slowed down a bit,but post 2015WC he was bowling quite quick i saw him as more of a fast medium bowler then operating between 138-143+

He looked quite dangerous in our home season in 2016 specially the Kolkata test aginst Kiwis, dismantled them there

He regressed after that injuries ,lost swing which stalled his success story

he can still bowl low 140’s but doesn’t have that seam movement and swing skills anymore. Also at home leave Bhuvi, a guy like Umesh looks better than Bumrah and Shami in some spells. He was kept around to be our specialist in Eng,Nzl and May be SA on some

Pitches but what’s the point if he is not available? Also the guy almost f’ed us in the Pakistan game. God bless Shankar (all his sins forgiven) for standing up that day and dare I Say SDP for stepping up.

Let me speak about his worldcup performance

• (vs SA) - Picked up 2 wickets in final over (50th) of the innings.
• (vs Aus) - Picked up 3 wickets: 2 in 40th and 1 in 50th over of the innings.
• (vs Pak) - No wickets in match, got injured after few over.
• (vs Ban) - Picked his only wicket from the match in 45th over.
• (vs SL) - Picked his only wicket from the match in 50th over.
• (vs NZ, Semi Final) - Picked his first wicket in 45th over of the match.

Missed out important match against England where we all know what would have happened to his bowling.

 

So in whole worldcup he has never been able to pick wicket before 40th over and we are missing him in this series where likes of starc, bumrah, cummins, shami are getting smacked all around.

 

If we are talking about his stats since last 3 years then also tell me how many matches he has faced against strong England side? or full strength Australian side?

 

 

These are his stats and he has played only 3 matches post 2015 against peak England team in which he has economy of 6.5+ and has picked in total 1 wicket! He is lucky to actually miss this series i would say.

 

I like him in test cricket specially useful for overseas conditions with both bat and ball but if he has failed to keep himself fit for important overseas tour so many times then i think it's time to move on from him and give some new guy chance. I doubt he will be able to last any big important test tour anyway with his fitness nowadays. In odis he needs to be kicked as quickly as possible. Might be useful in t20 but again he has to keep himself fit to play.

he still swings it in t20 and test but in odi i dont know why he bowls back of length which doesnt allow it to swing.

Also his back injuries have affected his yorkers

He got Smith in the middle overs in the world cup game when it was pretty even, something the current lot arent managing to do. If fit, should still get a game on flat tracks...can atleast keep the runs down in the death overs.

You just hit the nail on the head. This guy is masquerading as a "swing bowler", but never picks up wickets in the powerplay and as a "death bowler", but always goes huge against big teams. He is a fraud ala Tom Curran or Chris Jordan these days. I absolutely loathe these kind of players.

I cannot believe when I see posts like these where people say he is a swing bowler and good at death. Keeps the runs down at death? Have you seen his death bowling stats against big teams? Bhuvi along with Jadeja are the biggest fraudsters in the last 10 years.

2023 is a bridge too far for Bhuvi.  Probably for Shami too.  Let's see who steps up from the young brigade...

2017 - 40 s/r  and 33 avg -not good

2018- 48 avg and 55 s/r -terrible

yea shami wont be there in 2023 high chance, neither am i saying drop bhuvi but overrating

 

 

Bhuvi in Odi has been ordinary, that day me n @express bowling were talking about how he bowls differently in t20 and test hitting back of length but in other 2 formats he pitches it up and gets swing. Which is why his new ball bowling has gone down a lot in ODI for long

one diff that bhuvi wud have made this series was aaron finch- he has number on aaron finch and when affect opposition captain mentally its a bit of advantage
