That was real patta, even pace and bounce.

Point was about batting for such a long time.  Irrespective of conditions, it was hands down the most resilient innings  by one of batsman i have seen.

He is striking 33 balls per dismissal against cummins in this series.

Cummins might bowl maximum 25 overs tomorrow. It could be 7-5-8-5 spells, 8 with the second new ball.. So if he faces half his overs, he will last until his thrid spell with second new ball.. that will be around 50th over tomorrow.. Pujara's quota in that 300 balls would be 150.. he can go upto 120-130 dots tomorrow

But after the criticism he is facing, he might really push himself hard to save the match. It will be one of the great efforts by indian batsmen overseas if this match is saved.. maybe he can manage even the third spell against cummins and go until 80th over.. another 70-80 dots.

The pitch doesn't have any demons on it from what we have seen.. other than pujara's wicekt, most of our first innings dismissals have been self inflicted. 3 runouts, Rohit's return catch, Rahane's cut shot to a ball on to the stumps, Pant chasing 4th stump ball.. all can be avoided tomorrow. Of course pitch will deteriorate further but Lyon has bowled 40 overs with no wicket and ashwin got only 2 wickets in this match. Maybe there is still hope

By way for those who don't remember Gambhir once batted 70+ over scoring 70 odd runs and saved test match.

Gambhir had balls of steel. Not even Kohli has that. A true match winner. Beyond stats. He was a clutch player especially in ICC tournaments. Haven't seen anyone like him since he was dropped.

Pujara in 4th innings in SENA LINK

128 runs in 12 innings, 1 NO

Avg 11.63, SR 35.95

HS 23

Works out to around 32 balls per innings. Already played 29 balls, so if he makes it to 2nd over tomorrow that is better than expected.

exceeded his expectations by 173 balls :hatsoff:
