Where does this rank among the greatest 4th innings partnerships in Indian Test cricket history? Not in terms of runs but in terms of importance and just the fight, quality of the opposition and that they're playing away from home?

In second inning number of overs to bat , India batted 150.5 overs in 1979 oval test,

Here we batted for 131 overs

That 1979 test deserved a win, that is one of most under appericated double centuries in history by Sunil Gavaskar.  Chased down 438 by himself.

213 for the 1st wkt Gavaskar & Chauhan. 153 for 2nd wkt- Gavaskar & Vengsarkar. Mega partnerships that should have been enough to get us the win.

The Vihari Ashwin partnership has to be amongst the gutsiest. Injured players consisting of a guy new to international cricket and a bowler who can bat a bit holding on against a strong Australian bowling attack is just so good. Thinking South Africa’s big time ABD and Amla tried to hold on against India at home- and India was able to break through their defenses and win the game.
