Yoda-esque Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Never heard this one before. He has always been anti-Modi from 2001 onwards, you should see his hostile interviews even in 2013. Remember this one... But this grapevine is new, maybe in 2013 he was looking for some support in media to get him into the national scene. They need media as much as media needs politicians. But, it will be strange and illogical to approach someone who has been a Congress/UPA stooge all along and was hostile to you for 15 years. Hard to believe. Agree..even before September 2013, Modi ridiculed rajdeep in the india today conclave.I think rajdeep was always opposed

G_B_ Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Rajdeep was sounded out to launch a centre right new channel in 2013. He declined. This is politics...opinions change. Arnab a Rajdeep protoge jumped at the chance a few years down the road and the rest is history.

I read the wire article in its entirety. The wire is not trying to falsify the report, the tractor-driver's grandfather is. The article has stated very clearly also that the doctors have denied everything that the grandfather is stating. It details how lacerations may result from bullet exit wounds, but also details that such lacerations could occur in other ways and that the report does not mention mandible fractures, which would have occurred if it was a bullet injury. It doesn't seem like the article itself was taking the grandfather's side. In your opinion, should they have ignored the family's claims and not reported it at all? My take is that, by reporting the family's opinion and then providing a reasonable rebuttal, they have helped strengthen the police/doctors' case. Edited January 31, 2021 by BacktoCricaddict

You know the real reason to go out and report one side allegations in this time of crisis, this will add fuel to raging fires. UP police has called him out on an FIR. This means nothing until prosecutors take this case and judge allows it, but such reporting has to come with some responsibility , people are getting killed by their stoking of tensions. From the article: The Wire on Saturday published an article insinuating that the protester who died during the Delhi tractor rally on Republic Day, had died of bullet injuries and not because of the injuries he sustained from the overturning of the tractor. The article further claims that the victim’s relatives spoke to the doctor who carried out the autopsy who claimed that while there was bullet injury, ‘his hands were tied’, thereby insinuating that the UP government is trying to coverup. And while the Rampur District Magistrate clarified that all these statements are false, The Wire has stuck to its report. It has only updated the report while the headline still continues to be provocative. Edited January 31, 2021 by coffee_rules

I would agree if their article took the family's side and ignored other possibilities. But, to me, it didn't seem like they did. After I read the article, I came away feeling sorry for the family (any human would), but trusting the police/doctors more. Publishing the photos could definitely have been avoided.

'Autopsy Doctor Told Me He'd Seen the Bullet Injury But Can Do Nothing as His Hands are Tied' Grandfather of Navreet Singh, killed in tractor parade on January 26, levels dramatic charge, doctors deny making any statement. ----------------------------------------------------------------- It said what the grandfather said, and then clearly says doctors deny making the statement. Such stories and photos get forwarded around in WAs to cause riots. No wonder, the government shuts off internet in sensitive areas to spreading rumors.?

Where is the balance, though? Should journalists hold back and not report it at all? Then, SM will take over and spread only the grandfather's side. Then what?

Actually, IMO, opposition and journalists are done when it comes to use of law to the letter in specific circumstances. I maintained, throughout SSR, Arnab, kangana debate, the way NCP,SS, Congress misused Mumbai Police and other state machinery by going after individuals and it only got checked to some extent only after SC spoke, while everyone kept silent and some times cheered or found excuse to justify, It will come to haunt them. I know for fact that this is happening in some non opposition states. Difference is, law is being used same way, only against goons and mafias. But won’t be surprised it to be used against people like Yogendra Yadav , Tikait et all. Edited January 31, 2021 by mishra
