Adamant Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Gill has all the ability in the world but as we have seen in the case of Rohit Sharma that ability alone doesn't guarantee success in all formats. Gill has a long way to go before he gets anywhere close to Kohli, i haven't seen many players with the work ethics and discipline that Kohli has. mancalledsting and Forward Defence 2

prudent_kreeda Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Thing i admire about Gill is immense confidence and the will to adapt & adjust to counter bowler's plan. Within 6 innings in Test cricket he was making slight adjustments in his stance & Technique 1) to counter short stuff and innovate new strokes on off side vs short balls & 2) reducing playing away from body to balls around off . That is what gives me a positive feeling even in ENG he should have reasonable success vs swing. In all other conditions he will come good with his game as it is today. express bowling 1

True. Loads of expectations from him but it takes a lot of hunger and dedication to keep pushing oneself and become an ATG. Hopefully he gets there and doesn't lose his way.

The pull shot is as far away from the front foot defence as a shot can be. You statement holds true, yes, but for that we'll have to be talking about Kohli on his debut series against the Windies. Excellent observations as usual !!
Nikhil_cric Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I dont want to jinx but hes extremely gifted. He is far ahead in his development as a batsman than kohli was at the same age
jusarrived Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Gill is not some one I would call elegant, hes just like virat in that regard

afan Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Still early days as far as Gill is concerned, but looks very promising isn't it. I still think Gill is a bit more balanced in his stance, and has a Rohit Sharma like calmness to his demeanor . The teams around the world will have a good look at him, and so its going to be a constant improvement mechanism with Gill in days to come
TNAmarkFromIndia Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Curious to see how he does in places like England and New Zealand.
Old guy Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 very gifted player but i do not think opening will be best position for him. he is bit of stroke maker and in this era it works in australia and sub continent but not elsewhere. should be our future number 4 or 5.
vvvslaxman Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I beg to differ with those who think Kohli is unattractive batsman. Very reason i watch his batting is for his attractive stroke play. He may not have that lazy elegance of Rohit. But he has no ugly shot in his book. Smith's 90% of shots are outrageously ugly to watch. Gill, KL Rahul, Rohit are all attractive batsman to watch in their own way KL Rahul
