So you are saying that there is nothing we should do when fielders consistently drop catches? Just accept it as is and move on?

If passing yoyo is a prerequisite, isn't catching a more important aspect in cricket and shouldn't cricketers be penalized for dropped catches? Being a reliable catcher for your team should be paramount than being super agile on the field saving couple of runs. Not ignoring the value of saving runs but someone like a Kuldeep Yadav won't be as quick than his other colleague but definitely he could work a lot on his catching skills. In such times of YoYo, Warnie & D. Lehmann would have been ostracized had they played today but they were such magnificent catchers. I'm not comfortable with players being penalized for catches dropped. Nobody wants to drop catches and want their team to bear the brunt. This is where fielding coach has to come forward & work closely along with players. Start planning some interesting drills which is benefitting in the end. Honestly I really don't know what methods does Sridhar use, while Jonty has got a reputation of introducing innovative drills to challenge players to help them improve.
Frustrated Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Shardul dropped one. Nattu dropped one. Hardik dropped 2. Total 4 sitters dropped. This win might hv masked our catching inabilities. Hope TM takes it seriously..

Even Mark "Tubby" Taylor, who was one of the best slip catchers of all time or Brian McMillan who was also another outstanding slip catcher.
putrevus Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Pandya catches those catches in his sleep.Thakur to me got too comfortable taking that catch. Cacthing needs to worked on by this team.Slip catching is horrible.Outfield catching and fielding is fine.
Vilander Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Most show ponies like hardik kohli are dropping most.
Vilander Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Replace one tattoo with a black dot for each drop

The more time one spends getting the right fitness to do "just enough" to pass this Test is time spent away from practicing core skills like catching. Catching throughout the last few months has been abysmal and it is pretty clear that this test is not a good barometer of cricketing skills. It is also pretty clear that it has failed in its objective since obviously poor catchers and ground fielders like Chahal have managed to slip through the cracks and pass this Test. There is no evidence for this claim. Just because cricketers are becoming more fit now doesn’t mean there isn’t enough time to practice catching skills. They are professional sportsmen, why would being fit take away their ability to hone other skills? SENA teams have a good level of fitness & field well too. In fact England & NZ seem to have a much higher bar in their YoYo test than India. It doesn’t seem to affect their catching skills, so why is it affecting Indian players alone? whether passing a yo-yo test is mandatory for everyone irrespective of their role in the team might be debatable, but I find the claim the requirement to pass the yo-yo test is negatively affecting the team’s fielding as plainly ridiculous. mancalledsting Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 YOYO test designed to demonstrate fitness. Fitness helps one to field, bat and bowl to the best of their ability during intense game situations. It is not a substitute to specific fielding practice which also needs to be intense if high standards are to be maintained.
Khota Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 YoYo shows your fitness to play the game. Catching is a skill you need to work on. Till the team coaches decide to bench players who always drop catches, no one will improve.

cowboysfan Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 they are dropping sitters though,i doubt its because the fielding coach is teaching them bad technique.
rkt.india Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Yo Yo test is for fitness, not for catching. Yo Yo test is anyway shelved. They use 2K test now.
