Yoyo Test is a total failure. Dropping catches is at all time peak...

What's the relation between yoyo test and catching

If there is no relation, then why is it compulsory to pass?

Can you quantify value of the test in cricketing benefits?

Yo-yo is more for ground fielding, but I get your point. Never seen players like Ashwin, Sehwag, Laxman dropping catches, they were not great athletes but does it matter

Not sure there is a relationship, but without jadeja our fielding looks ordinary.  I can’t remember the last time when I was awed by a catch india took.

the general fielding standards have been going down for the past few years. India used to better or match SENA fielding not long ago, not so any more.

There is a relation. Fitness is related to batting, bowling and fielding.

Why pointing towards dropped catches?

Passing Yo Yo test is useless if our fielders keep dropping sitters.    We would hv won this match one hour ago, if Pandya held on to those 2 sitters.    One off stokes and another off Sam Curran.

There is. The more time one spends getting the right fitness to do "just enough" to pass this Test is time spent away from practicing core skills like catching.

Catching throughout the last few months has been abysmal and it is pretty clear that this test is not a good barometer of cricketing skills.

It is also pretty clear that it has failed in its objective since obviously poor catchers and ground fielders like Chahal have managed to slip through the cracks and pass this Test.

How did Chahal's batting, bowling or fielding improve? He passes yoyo test consistently.

When did Chahal struggle in match due to fitness issue?

If he pulled out after bowling 2 overs due to fitness, then we can question that.

You implied that passing yoyo test helps fitness, which would help with batting, bowling and fielding. How did it help Chahal become a better batsman, bowler or fielder?

Yoyo is more for showing your stamina, how you can stop leeting the  opposition convert singles into doubles, by being responsive as a fielder by reaching from point A to point B and stopping and picking the ball quickly and throwing it back to the keeper.

Also for running wel between the wickets as a bat, and bowling long spells.

Honestly, we are wrong to bring yoyo conversation every time when catches are deopped. Dropping catches has nothing to do with yoyo discussion. Two different topics.  That is a skill issue and under pressure issue and nothing to do with yoyo test.

So those who bring yoyo to not select a fielder who is not catching is wrong but at the same time fans who question yoyo by seeing dropped catches are also equally and massively wrong.

We need to change the fielding coach, improve catching skills. Things like yoyo or similar fitness test are good to overall improve the agility of the players. Nothing wrong with that.

if guys like vhahal and others can’t improve, thats their mental issue and lack of ability as a fielder. Yoyo is not out there to improve’s chahal’s cstching. A fielding coach is the one who is the problem.

YoYo and catching are separate issues. I really don't understand why BCCI persists with Sridhar, every time we tour our fielders have been dropping more than dozen & a half catches every time.

Focussing on yoyo to the extent the team does today takes away time to practice core cricketing skills like catching. If passing yoyo is a prerequisite, isn't catching a more important aspect in cricket and shouldn't cricketers be penalized for dropped catches?
