We need as many tools as possible, especially a versatile one like mRNA. I was so wrong about India not having the infra for doing this at this time. Never happier to be wrong about this! I just read the article in its entirety and cannot help but be so proud of what these scientists have done with little fanfare or public support! There are no miracles in science - just compassionate, intelligent, workaholic scientists doing their best work when the world needs them. But, if there is anything you want to call a miracle, it is is this - within 1.4 years of a pandemic, to conceive, manufacture, test, scale-up and re-test for efficacy against VOCs, all indigenously. That, friends, is really what people who believe in miracles should be calling a miracle. sandeep, rkt.india, ravishingravi and 4 others 1 1 5

Vaccine based on its efficiency will help that percentage of vaccinated people to have the antigens to defend against the infection and 100% of the cases will help stop a critical situation.

Yes it does but shouldn't this be the topmost priority for the govt? No. Because the funds and logistics work required to get mRNA vaccine, could potentially be used to provide the other type of vaccines to 100 times more people, if not more. And ALL vaccines are effective in saving lives, not just the mRNA ones. Just because some ignorant folks have FOMO feelings about wanting coca-cola vaccine instead of Pepsi, does not mean that government should cater to their "feelings". National resources and Public health decisions have to be made dispassionately and in a way to help maximum number of folks. Demanding govt investment in mRNA vaccines in India is utter selfishness. Ideally, do it all. But if it is a zero-sum proposition. Do what you know. Let companies invest in mRNA vaccines (some already have) and get them to the market. ash 1

Third phase of trial less important phase 1 and 2. Phase 3 is regarding absolute efficacy. It was given emergency use approval after phase 2 when they knew it was safe to use. coffee_rules Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 AP/Kurnool variant N440k variant is more deadly, not detected by PCR, but deteriorates the body in 3-4 days BacktoCricaddict 1
coffee_rules Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 (edited) I read in a paper that Plasma treatment, which develops artificial immune system ( foreign plasma used by infected) cause more mutations of the virus, can lead to these multiple variants, some deadly. it is not effective in Covid patients beyond 3 days of infection. I read requests for Plasma from Delhi and MH mostly, not much from other parts. FDA has approved it . But has many guidelines to allow such treatment. AIIMS has approved Plasma treatment https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03291-y Edited May 4, 2021 by coffee_rules

Article says it's not a new variant. It has been known since last year, but is dying out now. Hope that is the case. Again, the reason it is not detectable by PCR is because of how sampling is done. At this stage, people have to be "self-strict" and highly disciplined. Cover both nose and mouth (unlike the guy in the pic) with a good mask. Edited May 4, 2021 by BacktoCricaddict coffee_rules 1
