There is an unused plant in Chennai which can produce 600 million doses. No activity from center inspite of repeated requests.

Exactly, No one died in China, Russia, Iran, North Korea. All deaths happened in Capitalist nations where Capitalists sat on masks, oxygen, ventilators, medicines and vaccines

List of vaccine manufactures in India. There are 21 including PSUs. Either could have used a PSU to manufacture Covaxin or could have opened up Covaxin patent to all private companies. Nothing was done and now there is no second dose covaxin for many people.

Meanwhile commie Russia just introduced its fourth vaccine - sputnik light today. All 4 developed by their govt research facility.

The funny thing govt has actually started doing all this now. They are now trying to open the unused manufacturing plant in Chennai for Bharat biotech..they are also inviting other private players to produce Covaxin. Both are decisions made very recently, which should have been done long back.

Better late than never, glad that ICFs are not part of the govt else they would still claim nothing is wrong

No the current central govt in inefficient. Do not extrapolate this and claim that only private players are efficient. Already gave Russia's example, they introduced their fourth govt researched vaccine today.  Whereas an Indian citizen is forced to pay 1200 Rs for a ICMR developed vaccine.

I support free market economy, but there are certain key areas which the govt should control. Vaccination and healthcare is certainly one of them. Else we will be in the mercy of private players, with people like you claiming that private players are god sent saviours

Halfkine is already manufacturing covaxin. Bharat biotech too is increasing manufacturing to 600 millions a year.

When did the topic change from vaccines back to Kerala. Leave it man, you don't understand. But next time don't bring communism/capitalism whenever a private player does something good. Makes no sense

I think you guys are side stepping the entire issue.

Its not much of a difference between a socialist state government or a more laissez faire state government.

The bureaucracy is inept irrespective of who rules and want to be unaccountable. Their political masters also prefer this lack of transparency so that money can be made.

The private players can bypass this entire blackhole of a bureaucratic process and hence could provide succor more effectively.

Case in point, the Maharashtra govt announced free vaccine for everyone towards the end of the last month. But they have not given any kind of indication on how they intend to disburse all these vaccines. There are just 500 vaccines each for 7 centres in Mumbai today. In the 18-44 age range. The state blames the centre, the centre the state and there is a basic difference in audit figures of number of vaccines the state has.

The BMC has agreed to provide vaccines ( at some point in the future) to housing societies at rs 1250/jab. SII has capped the price at Rs700. The state is creating a make believe shortage and then distress selling vaccines.

@velu There is nothing communist in Kerala, apart from the name of the ruling party. You can set up factories. Labour laws are not much different from Maharashtra, and foreign entities can set up shop too.  Our collective failure during the second wave has naught to do with Capitalism or Communism.

A good story on how communist Russia meddled with the credibility of Sputnik. The success of Sputnik is not because of Russian government, but in spite of it.

I see a similarity with Bharat biotech in this. Government should not be in the business of Pharma, but regulate the usage, illegal hoarding etc

Don't know what to call Russian Govt anymore. The style is very much like the 80s Communist Russia with an autocratic leader, but all the Communism is lost and replaced with a Capitalist policy that favors one person, one party rule, China model. What do we call them now?
