RIL said it has ramped up production of medical grade oxygen from zero to 1,000 metric tonne per day and is ensuring swift supply of the resource across states and Union Territories. “Traditionally, Reliance is not a manufacturer of medical grade liquid oxygen. First ask why public funded and ICMR researched vaccine is under Bharat biotechs control. Who owns the patent? And why is govt paying for it? It is a myth that only Giant pharmaceutical companies can do R&D. Many groundbreaking vaccines in history was invented by independent researchers. Capitalism in healthcare is also a reason why World is in such a mess now.

Govt owned vaccine manufacturing plants are also there, unused. The patent is with ICMR. Ideally the patent should have been open for any company to manufacture it. Are you happy that our state govts are paying crores to private companies needlessly? Atleast Moderna and Pfizer spent on R&D and own the patent. Dr Reddy or BB is just manufacturing the vaccine, which could have been done by the govt in its own manufacturing plant. It would have reduced the dependency on private players and eventually brought down the cost with economies of scale.
