Thats the difference between between Kangress and Modis BJP

What difference? PR and fear? If any if them say anything against BJP their careers would be forever over. This party is the party of PR, of course they will take credit for anything good, thats been their entire modus operandi, never take blame for huge failures, latch onto any good news with their entire PR team to fool their gullible supporters

Their method is very very simple. If anything good happens, put your entire PR behind it. In which country in the world is the prime minister or president credited for these things? They have entire sports ministries and people to work for it. But in india you have to literally pay respect to the cult leader, just like north Koreans keep doing it for everything. Our sportspeople and other celebrities need to keep chanting the sacred name. In which other democracy does this happen?

And of course part of the PR is also to instill fear where anyone not praising or daring to criticize the party is finished. As if these sports people have any other options

Give credit where due. This govt. has increased the sports budget three fold since UPA 2. TOPS scheme is a game changer in the long run. Many present and past athletes have spoken highly about it.

Even our Para athletes are receiving decent govt funding now. Congress was busy buying treadmills worth 25 lakhs! for the CW games back in 2010.

@ admins/mods - can we keep this perma-sticky on this forum? There are lots of events in the Olympic sports that keep occurring that may be of interest to folks that do not visit other sub-forums. I'll update this as much as possible.

Agree, this thread should stay at least till the end of the year.

Next year we can have a separate thread for CWG and Asian Games. After that the buildup to Paris 2024, next time we can track our Olympians, national trials, qualification etc. 2 years in advance.

Indian hockey teams unlikely to compete in Birmingham CWG, says IOA chief Batra

Very good news if true. We must look at the larger picture and be choosy in event selection.

Target must be Olympics and World Cup.

Next year hardly any gap between CWG and Asian Games, just 35 days. Players want to peak for Asian Games since that is much more important, a gold there means automatic qualification to Paris 2024. Much more important than India gaining a medal in CWG albeit we will get to play stronger teams in CWG. Understand the predicament, if we qualify via Asian Games we can have more flexibility in our prep before Paris, no faltu ka tension about qualifiers.

More true for women, Asian Games is the easiest way to secure Paris spot, we saw how tricky our previous qualifier against USA was in our home turf.

Understandable that Hockey India doesn't want to send a weaker squad or juniors to CWG. That will guarantee heavy losses against teams like Aus, NZ, Eng, Malaysia, maybe even against minnows like RSA, Pakistan, Canada...and we can lose goodwill among the chwtiya Indian public at a time when sentiment is very much in favor of our hockey teams.

Going forward we must take a leaf out of Belgium men's team who don't mind losses throughout the year in bilateral tests and smaller tourneys as long as it means peaking in the 2 big events. They are defending WC champs, gold medalists in Tokyo, so they've got something right. We must learn to pick and choose, peak in those 2 main events.

I think India will do poorly at the CWG in terms of medals. We usually are top 5 - but I think we will be out of the top 10 this time. Unless we win big in Wrestling, Weightlifting and our Track & Field athletes perform well. Badminton has only 6 medals. Hopefully we sweep those. Don't see too many medals in the offing in other events. Shooting and Archery will be held in India early next year before the event and added on to the total.

Boxing I am sure will be swept by the British teams - we may get a few bronzes. We know how the officiating is done there.

Asian Champions Trophy could be postponed again

Covid-19 is continuing to wreak havoc with the sporting calendar. The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) will have a meeting before September 15 to decide on the fate of both the men’s and the women’s Asian Champions Trophies. With travel restrictions to take into equation, it’s likely that AHF may have no choice but to reschedule it. Both the events were originally slated for 2020.

“We will be able to make a final decision by the 15th of September,” Tayyab Ikram, CEO of the AHF, said.

“We will be discussing this in the coming one or two weeks. As you know , it’s a very challenging time with travel restrictions and so on.

There is potential that we may have to reschedule our Champions Trophies. At this moment, we are discussing the options and will have to see if we can go ahead.” While the women’s Asian Champions Trophy is slated to be held in Donghae, South Korea, from October 24-31, the men’s event is slated to be held in Dhaka from October 1-9.

The AHF has also done away with the men’s junior Asia Cup — originally scheduled to be a qualifier for the junior men’s World Cup. “Both junior Asia Cups will not take place before JWC,” Ikram informed. India have directly qualified for the junior WC since they are hosts. The other teams from Asia are Pakistan, Malaysia and South Korea.

Women’s team to train from September 13
The senior women’s team will be back training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Bengaluru from the second week of September. It’s likely that new chief coach, Janneke Schopman, will be in situ to take the team’s first training session post the Olympics. The men aren’t expected to be back before October.  If, as expected, the Asian Champions Trophy is postponed, the next competitive fixture for the men’s side is a Pro League encounter in New Zealand in the first week of February.

Hope our top badminton players skip CWG and play Asian Games. Latter almost as strong as Olympics in that sport.

Shooters and archers should be pampered a bit less, awful returns in those sports. NRAI and some of our top shooters/coaches especially must be cut down to size. Show some accountability first.

In terms of importance/prestige Olympics>>>>>Asian Games>>CWG

Not for all sports. For sports like Athletics they are a good barometer for India. Asian Games is pretty poor as far as Athletics is concerned. Asian champs are miles behind the Carribean, UK and Aussies. It would be great for Swimming and Cycling if we had any contenders there as well.

For boxing, wrestling, TT, badminton and weightlifting - agreed.
