I heard that there is lot of hype for our wrestlers who are yet to begin their campaign. Even Sakshi Malik is hyping them who herself won a medal last time.

Hoping the wrestlers can get us some more medals.

Sakshi Malik along with another opponent during last olympics also won bronze in her wrestling event.

Via repechage, same as Sushil Kumar in 2008.

From the Oly website:

In wrestling, as the name suggests, it comes into effect for the wrestlers who lose in the pre-quarterfiinals or later. It allows the wrestlers a chance to revive themselves in the competition and compete for bronze medal or third-place match. It should be noted that the wrestler can revive themselves only if the opponent they lost to reaches the final.

The theory is that a worthy wrestler should not be penalised just because they were paired with another strong wrestler very early on in the draw.

The losing semi-finalists earn themselves a spot in the bronze medal playoffs, not against each other. They will face off against the wrestlers who come through the repechage rounds. As a result, two bronze medals are awarded.

2 realistic prospects: Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, both will fight for gold/silver...bronze is more or less guaranteed.

Couple of others with a shot but not favorites in their categories, since 2008 we have always had at least one unexpected wrestler win a medal, so there is chance of more than 2 medals this time.

Indeed. They have not converted any penalities and missed obvious chances. They have been attacking and I hope they at least continue to do that.

They seem to be unable to get players in the D in numbers. Ball gets turned over very easily without a clear shot at goal.

PS: Just read again. Since the provision is only for losers of the bouts, is it because of injury fears? Anyway interesting explanation.

Boxing did used to have Bronze Medal matches in the Olympics, but they were eliminated so as to focus on the Gold Medal matches on the final days of competition and because a lot of the Bronze Medal matches were ugly and unruly as they featured two boxers who had just lost. FIBA decided it would be better for everyone to just eliminate Bronze Medal matches. New provisions was introduced by Boxing Federation which bars loser of a bout to fight for a certain allotted time period (usually 2-4 weeks)

because I don’t see cricket having an accountability any more. We invest too much into it but don’t get the results. I was dejected after 2003 wc loss but still proud of the team, can’t say the same about 2017 CT or 2019 WC.

2014 and 2016 can say we had a bad day and better team won but it’s only going down Hill and about time people get some wake up call. Having said that we will still continue watching, I tried to watch as much as possible of  today’s ridiculous T20 match vs Srilanka  FFS.

What did you invest in cricket?

I wll again rant about GOI should hugely cut BCCI's finances & immediately stops any cricket stadium or infra being built.  For cricket team there should be accountability coz if they don't win ICC tourneys there is no point in paying them gazillions.

GOI doesn't pay or control BCCI. Why dont you ask other sports federations work their ass off. You want to kill one game young kids see their future in?

On paper, there is still some chance.

Realistically, a repeat of Rio, complete disaster, NRAI has tough questions to answer now.
