I don't think he'll have too many issues against the shorter ball on UAE wickets. His batting is perfectly suited for those conditions. A bit like Shoiab Malik who couldn't play quality pace to save his life but still used to plunder runs for fun in the UAE because of his spin playing abilities. Horses for courses.. 

 

 

And no.. I'm not advocating for that top order. Dhawan shouldn't even be in the squad let alone the playing XI. Rahul-Rohit-SKY-Kohli-Iyer is my preferred one.

So how will you accommodate Iyer

As i said a lineup of these guys will have unpleasant consequences

Don't underestimate UAE pitches,i saw them having good carry too enough to take a toll on Iyers mental strength

And even if somehow Dhawan ends up opening , I'll have Iyer in the MO over KL. We're doomed if we play Rahul in the MO.. he'll do multiple 25(22)s and screw us up royally. Or may end up doing Yuvi 2014 type damage.

Only Dubai had some resemblance of bounce last IPL and that was more of an abomination than normalcy.

Shami should not be selected for T20s. He should focus on test cricket only and play ODIs by controlling his workload.

 

I am not sure about Siraj though based on just IPL performance.

 

Will also consider Shaw in the squad over Dhawan.

KL looked totally out of form against eng in T20 series in March 2021. Failed as opener in 4 consecutive games and was eventually dropped in the 5th game.    Unless he shows lot of improvement in ipl, there is no reason for his inclusion.   We already hv 2 match winning wicket keepers in Pant and Kishan.

Washington's injury looks serious. We have seen in past that initially it is said that it will be healed in 6-8 weeks but ultimately it takes almost 3-3.5 months.
