Popular Post deathmonger
I had a real good time this Olympics, with a genuine medal prospect being in action almost all days. And I would like to follow some of our players post Olympics too. I realized I enjoy an event (win or lose): 1. An Indian is playing 2. That Indian has a decent shot at winning/competing 3. Competition is among the world's best (so no PV Sindhu beating up Pakistanis at the "South Asian" games) So am collating a list of events pre 2024 Paris etc so that others who would like to follow can also do it. @Gollum @neel roy - Please chime in 1. INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM Hockey is a proper spectator sport and after following the campaign of both teams would really like to follow them in the future. Men's events - HIGH QUALITY World Cup 2023 (second most prestigious after Olympics) - Being held in India. Haven,t made the top 4 since 1975 (since we won). Should try for a top 3 finish if not better . FIH Pro League against good teams MED QUALITY Asian Games 2022 - India is far and away the best team in Asia so should be winning these comfortably, although choked in 2018. Won Gold in 2014 though. Have almost medaled every time. After the Olympics bronze I don't think there will be any choking etc. Should win gold (and should be perennial gold favorites if this revival is permanent and I believe it will be post the bronze). CWG 2022 - Australia is the gold class obviously. And has decent teams like NZ, Eng but think we are now good enough to beat them comfortably. Should aim for a minimum silver and try to improve on it. nikrulz, neel roy, G_B_ and 7 others 1 6 3 Link to comment
deathmonger
Women's events - Due to the women's team being a bit weaker almost everything is high quality HIGH QUALITY - World Cup 2022 - Have done poorly here but let's see how they do post this run. Asian Games 2022 - Does decently and have medaled frequently (in fact worst has always been 4th) but should look to win Gold considering their performance. CWG 2022 - A bit tougher than Asian but again haven't done too badly here with a few medals. Should look to win Silver and maybe Gold (defeating the Aussies again) Gollum, f20143g70 and Banton 3 Link to comment
deathmonger
2. PV SINDHU HIGH QUALITY - 2021 World Championship - Basically world cup. Sindhu is defending her title here. All top players play here and Sindhu has medaled in each of the last 5. 2022 Asian Games - High quality. Except Marin everyone else will play. Asian championships whenever it is held - Same as above MED QUALITY - 2022 CWG - Easier draw. Should win Gold. f20143g70, Banton and Gollum 3 Link to comment

neel roy
@deathmonger good analysis. There will be atleast 1 world cup every year in shooting. I am hoping Manu will be better prepared next time. Hype will also be not there. I remember Gagan Narang was super hyped up in 2008 more than Bindra. He failed but won in 2012. Gollum 1 Link to comment

Gollum
Don't care about CWG except hockey. Asian Games better but won't invest much time, may follow some events and hope to see new faces in sports like fencing, TT, throwing events etc. Link to comment
Gollum
For hockey enthusiasts: Men's Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka starting on Oct 1. Want us to send our best squad and bulldoze the competition. Especially want us to hammer Malaysia, irritating team for last 5 years @neel roy . Also crush Pakistan, Japan, South Korea. Mainly want us to break Malaysians, bogey team in recent times. Women's Asian Champions Trophy starting last week of October in South Korea. Time to start getting into the habit of winning gold. We don't really manage that at Asian level (1-2 outliers aside) because of Japan, China, South Korea, historically far better sides. But now we must build on Tokyo success, learn to play gold medal matches, dominate tournaments when we are favorites, cultivate winning culture in KOs. Also we have junior men's hockey WC at the end of the year, we are defending champs having beaten Belgium in the final of 2016 edition. Some bright youngsters from that squad were instrumental in our success in last 4 years including bronze in Tokyo. neel roy 1 Link to comment

G_B_
broadcast is a big issue for hockey in the UK illegal streams are a pain to watch. Hockey match has become more watchable since being made 60min. With breaks and all works out to 90min. Which is less time than a football match Link to comment

ShoonyaSifar
One big hope - no major ego clashes between the federations and players, especially those sports where we have won medals. In the past, federations have tried to arm twist the players after such successes, many a times getting rid of the successful ones because their profile and status had gone up a few notches after the success. deathmonger
I'll just update with whatever is coming next. 2021 World Wrestling Championships: 2-10 October. This is a super high quality event. Those who medal here are Olympic medal contenders. Last time Bajrang, Dahiya, Deepak, Phogat etc got medals. Would be interesting to see how the two Maliks shape up. 2021 Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup: 24-5 Nov. We had won last time in 2016 and lots of those kids went on to be part of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic squad. A good showing here can mean a good run in the 2023 WC and 2024 Olympics and even beyond.
