Is India missing Ashwin's bowling in 2nd test?

He's hardly bowled regularly, in Melbourne/Sydney/WTC final or these two tests he's almost always the last to be bowled from a pack of 5 bowlers.

hindsight but Ashwin in place of one of the quicks here wouldve given us some extra runs down the order, jaddu wouldve had another batting partner, and he would love the turn moeen is getting now

Jaddu struggled in 2019-20 (esp. home season) but then did well in Aus. In Eng he hasn't done well till now but even skipper is partially responsible for that.

Even Ashwin hasn't done well in England on last two tours.

Moeen always gets more turn than Ashwin.

Moeen is quicker through the air - which is what you need on this slow pitch. Ashwin's slow pace would not work here. People have short memory - when Moeen was able to land balls on the footmarks regularly in the 4th test in 2018, Ashwin looked completely toothless. Could not land enough balls on the footmarks with spin and bite. Don't expect Ashwin to do well on a pitch because Moeen does well.

This track was not spin friendly. You expect some wear and tear by late day 4 and day 5. Rahane played a bad shot. Ball to Jadeja turned a bit but was only one of the very few balls that did. You expect this by around day 5 with sun beating down every day.

Happy to be corrected as we will see both Ashwin and Moeen bowl on the same pitch at some point in this tour. Every bowler has a natural pace to be effective. Ashwin can try to increase his pace and that is what may make him ineffective. I would have taken Ashwin over Ishant for this match for the edge in batting. He would also have perhaps beaten a few batsmen with drift and dip. He can do that on almost any pitch. But people coming here to post after seeing Moeen bowl don't understand how different spinners have different skills in terms of speed and revs. Jadeja's skills are much more suited for pitch conditions tomorrow (except the footmarks outside right handers which a quicker spinner like Mo can exploit but not a slower spinner like Ashwin).

in WTC he plays 2 spinners and then starts to talk about 4 pacer theory as their plan and high chance he might abandon it in next game. He reacts on last game more then looking at next game

These are bare facts that should have made Ashwin the first name on team sheet. Unless the conditions are improbably loaded in favor of seamers, like Nottingham, it's not a debate when you have a seamer of Ashwin's quality and form available.

 

You missed the point. I agree with you that Ashwin is a good choice and would have been a better pick than Ishant and would have taken wickets. He is on a hot spree and would have probably succeeded here. I am not really debating you on that point.

 

My point is the reason that he would get wickets is not because Moeen is suddenly getting response from day 4 pitch. Ashwin is a different bowler and he would have probably gotten wickets even on day 1 and 2 when Moeen could only contain. People quoting the dry pitch and footmarks don't understand how Ashwin operates. In fact, in the past, when people expected Ashwin to blow teams away in such conditions (because Moeen could), he has actually disappointed.
