Is India missing Ashwin's bowling in 2nd test?

When considering Pujara, Kohli and Rahane are far worse cricketer than him.

 

Didn't Ashwin score a century recently and other 3 did nothing.

 

If Ashwin wasn't a bowler, a batsman scoring century in recent series would have been in team over 3 tailenders.

Comparing lower order batting to top order batting that too overseas. Ashwin also struggles against swing as he plays on the rise. Even if he plays, he isn't going to bat at 3-4. If he won't then how will he be picked instead of these three?

At #3? Batting at 8 is different than batting at 3. Ashwin also struggles against swing. He is laxman.

Ashwin isn't the best batsman you can have, but if you're going to be rigid with this appallingly bad middle order, you might as well go with Ashwin -- who's a slightly better batsman than the latest versions of these MO batsman, and at this stage of his career, an elite spinner who can also take the pitch out of the equation.

Lol Ashwin is a lower order bat he won't negotiate swing for long but yeah he might get some quick 20 or 30 which unfortunately might be much better than what Pujara returns these days.

Ashwin should be playing instead of Ishant.  Jadeja's ability as a spinner has messed up the thinking here. Just recognise Jadeja the pure batsman that he is and play Ashwin as the lone spinner along with three seamers Bumrah, Shami and Siraj. Any reservations around Jadeja's batting pedigree (there should be none) are allayed by Ashwin's additional runs (versus Ishant runs).

In one off tests it may he okay but you cannot keep doing it everytime. This is like Australia not playing Warne for fourth seamer. How many times that happened.
