Watching the ever-growing gap between Rooty-Tooty and Brat is refreshing. Hoping to see more of the same. Root is (mostly) a quiet guy who goes about contributing through his brilliant batting, effective fielding, and useful bowling (hopefully he can get close to 100 wkts at the time of retirement)

Kane averages more than 50 while Kohli is is averaging 47. That's a huge difference so matter how you slice it.

Yes, but one can make the case that Kane is much more of a weak team bully than Kohli. Jayawardene also has much higher avg than Kohli, doesn't make him better.

 

BTW, to reiterate, I have opposed Brat for a long time when the situation called for it, even during his peak

We're talking about a batter who has been MIA over the last 5+ years. I would take a weak team bully over a "no team" bully anytime.

I thought the discussion was regd the overall career. If we speak about last 5 yr, obviously there is no Fab4 worth mentioning. Even Smith has not attained super-high heights in this period. In last 5 years, the order is Root > Willy > Smith >> Kohli

Well as far as overall career goes surely a player with batting average of 54 is streets ahead of a batter averaging 47. Williamson is in a different league to Kohli right now.

no, by the same logic, so is jayawardene and even samaraweera has higher avg than kohli. avgs aren't everything. overall, willy could be better than brat, but the gap ain't huge.

 

in terms of "niceness" rating: root > willy (acts a bit too nice guy) > smith > brat

Can't say about Samaraweera but Jayawardene definitely has a case of being rated higher than Kohli. When you barely average 47 overall, you're just one of the many "good" batsmen out there who average close to what you did.

Different eras. Kane and Kohli are same era
