When Bharat Arun talked about the Indian fast bowling attack before the India Vs South Africa 2015 Test Series

Skillwise Bhuvi was really good. If he had worked hard and improved his pace while staying injury free he could have been lethal for us. Definitely did not do justice to his career. Ishant also used to hit 140 to 145k when he was very young. Now in his 30s.

I just love the passion that Bharat Arun is showing for genuine fast bowling.

This is one of the reasons why he has been able to put together a high quality fast bowling attack.

The best bowling coach we have ever had.

MRF pace foundation helped develop some pace bowlers.  Mcgrath, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee Chaminda Vaas,  Srinath,Zaheer, Sreesanth, Munaf  etc..  Prasidh krishna is the most recent emergent from MRF.  Hope our pacers make use of it. The MRF pace foundation pitches are nothing like what you see in other parts of India.

Tidbit: Tendulkar joined MRF pace foundation to become a fast bowler :)

Kudos to Dennis Lillee for this

I also wonder why the same Arun plays so many trundlers in white ball cricket.

Why not build a high quality fast bowling attack in LOIs too.  !!

its good they are prioritizing fast bowlers for Tests.Easier to manage workload.

In LOIs its mostly about economy these days anyway. We can create backups for Bumrah though.

Good Fast bowlers in LOIs can

....  Bowl good quick yorkers. Still the best death ball in white ball cricket.

....  Bowl good bouncers at the death as changeup surprise balls

....  Their change of pace will be more effective.

In death overs, you need cutters/slower balls as well. Just yorkers wont do. Shami bowls yorkers but still poor at death. Also takes a lot out of you so you cant bowl it regularly for too long.

Also workload management is big issue.

Which means we have to find fast bowlers who are good at both yorkers and slower balls.

Basically more fast bowlers with white ball skills like Bumrah.

but Bumrah is generational talent. Its not easy to have more like him.

Also apart from skills,in death overs you need someone who can keep calm and is a thinking bowler.

Avesh can be prepared I think.

By being like Bumrah, I mean a pacer who can bowl both good quick yorkers as well as good slower balls and bouncers.

Tyagi definitely has the potential.

I think one major difference between indian players and others is that No indian player has committed himself only for short format may be except Nattu .

Thus he would be practicing to be an allround bowler both for long format as well short format and in the process has not mastered the short format skills .

Now it is upto a pace bowler to assess where he can succeed and then focus completely for that format and thus masters all tricks of the trade.

I feel Nagarkoti can be one guy who should  seriously think of mastering the skills required for short format and excel in that format first. He has good chance too.

Can bowl 140+ , Skiddy , Needs to bowl lot more yorkers and then develop really deceptive slower ones with no change in arm speed  & cutters .Tremendous fielder too.

Khalil could be another one if he ups his speed limit 140+ and then develop other skills .

Once you make up your mind then if you practice 6-7 hrs daily just to perfect bowling yorkers ,cutters for say 1 year - no reason  why you cannot master those deliveries .Yorkers at high pace are the best but even pin point accurate yorkers /full length balls at a lower pace 132-136+  are also very effective in avoiding boundaries - best example Nattu who never bowls above 130-135..

Once that is mastered they should get to work on slower balls , cutters by using different grip & release , knuckle balls, leg cutters , sliders.

2 Bowlers i do not want to focus a lot on Short format is Tyagi  & Prasidh.  They should carry forward our pace brigade flag forward in tests as top priority. May be fine to play 50 overs .

Good fast bowlers who have a lot of control in LOIs will likely be successful in Tests as well by being able to consistently bowl a target line and length. Bumrah has proved that. A bonus is that the yorkers and short balls also help clean up the tail in tests.

Yes ... and one additional thing needed is stamina to bowl 25 overs a day with intensity and pace.

Avesh-  international quality bowler and ready now , even better than umesh, ishant and siraj.

Prasidh- international quality bowler and ready now even better than siraj, umesh n ishant.

Tyagi- he has pace and may be ready in future but not ready as of today.

Arzaan- rank trundler....

ishan porel ( next ishant sharma)- rank trundler....a under 134k bowler definitely not international class.

Mavi ( can be replacement for shami. Has v good seam position)= talented but still not as good as best india pacers.

LOI

Arshdeep Singh ( have high hopes from him. Made for loi.. cutters yorkers pace change)---average trundler

Khaleel ( again good in slow pitches)- highly talented but has to improve to play for india back.

nagarkotti ( frail body but can crank up pace)= has some fitness and action issues and is not being picked in kkr 11 too...

guys....we should value a bowler who is challenging the india pacers. i am excited about Avesh, Prasidh and a bit about TYAGI.

others mentioned above wont play for India as they have not proved themselves and there best days are gone now.
