Ashwin is an ATG level player.

And he's being treated as a squaddie.  Now to be fair, he does have a track record of 'failure' in away conditions in the past.  But I believe he's risen above that, and done so very clearly, for more than a couple of years now.  But sometimes Captains lose faith in players.  It happens.  One of many errors in judgement made by our test kuptaan.

He is without doubt an ATG. No qualms about it whatsoever. I agree that he has improved overseas.

People out here feel he only performs on tracks which support spin are being silly. He destroyed labushagne and Smith in australia last time.

Your next captain or vice captain should be sure shot starter from next gen players. Only Bumrah in this team is that kind of player. He deserved to be vice-captain because he has brain.

Bumrah should be starter for about 6 more years. After 33 we need to look elsewhere. Maybe 34 35 Max.

I don't think Boom will be around that long. Like Archer, I expect his overall career to be quite short. We may get another 2-3 yrs from him.

It was more of peace making deal more than anything else after backlash. Credit to him he grabbed the chance. Still don't htink he is not a long term options in LOI. He should be playing all the Tests home and away regardless of dips just like how other great spinner played. Just to cover up the the three clowns in the middle order they kept picking Jaddu ahead of Ashwin which is not his fault.  Ashwin himself is not a total dud with bat. He did save a Test in Australia didn't he?. He missed 50% of the overseas SENA matches. Not his fault. Missed an entire series in England. Most of his poor performances overseas came in early in his career. In the last 5 years his average is 29.97 in SENA.  Overseas doesn't mean not just SENA. It also includes other Asian countries, He has done well in other countries as well.  Basically Jaddu will go missing injured for a while. He will come back Ashwin will have to vacate his place. That is a bad treatment when guys like Kohli/Rahane/Pujara have been sucking balls for 2 or 3 years.

Let's use your own arguments.

Last 5 years (your criteria) overseas tours, which you yourself say includes SENA plus other countries

Ashwin: 14 tests, 460 runs@22, 56 wickets@29

Jadeja: 14 tests, 619 runs@39, 48 wickets@30

Why exactly should Jadeja not play as the all rounder ahead of Ashwin on these away tours?

Nha he is really fit and quite strong for his size. Very lean. He should be fine for 5 more years. He is a freak.

Dude. when you make a selection you don't use 5 year record. In the last 2 years or so Jadeja has regressed as a bowler.  At this point Axar is better than Jaddu purely as a bowler. It is impossible to miss how well he bowled without luck in a lot of the matches. 4 catches dropped in one innings of his bowling in SA> I guess you have not watched him how well he bowled in Australia.  Ashwin is handsdown the best spinner in the world by some distance. So yea you play him ahead of Jadeja. What was the use of Jadeja in England?  Finished with an average 45.33.  Batting average of 22.

Lol you used Ashwin's 5 year record to say he should be selected but when I showed you Jaddu stats being better suddenly 5 year record do not matter.

Ashwin is world's best spinner in specific conditions, still has a worse career record than Jadeja in SENA, Jadeja is better in overseas tours in last 3/5 years. Even Kuldeep got a 5-er in SENA but after nearly a decade long career Ashwin doesn't have a single 5-er.. No wonder he doesn't get appointed as the VC and isn't the preferred spinner in SENA

In most of the recent matches he played pitches were seamers dominant. Of course he can't get fifers as you think.  So Kuldeep knocking over tail means he is better than ashwin.   Nice logic lol  Ashwin taking out smith 3 times in Australia is equivalent to Jaddu taking out Moeen 4 times.  At least watch the match how they bowl instead of throwing random numbers. I am not sure you watched any of the test in Australia live.

Didn't know Khwaza, Head and Paine were tailenders.

BTW Jadeja and Ashwin have played 6 away tests together. Jadeja has 24 wickets@23, Ashwin has 21 wickets@35.

On the last Aus tour, Ashwin and Jadeja played two tests together

Jadeja 7 wickets@15, was injured in the 3rd innings at Sydney

Ashwin 7 wickets@39 but so what he got Smith out lol

You know in that 5 years he's been outbowled by Maharaj in SA & Bhai in Eng (both 2018 tours) right or do we skip those series?

Outbowling how? By bowling to English/SA batsmen? We bloody suck against every spinner in the world.

It's the results that matter, Moen has outbowled him twice in Eng & Maharaj once in SA. Do you discount Ashwin's avg in India because he bowls against sh!t Oz, SA, NZ, Eng batters at home? As bad as Indian batters are these nations are conclusively worse against spinners, though both Jadeja, Ashwin are obviously better than their spinners.

Umesh outbowled Cummins when Aus toured India in 2017. Such things mean nothing

Ashwin to Pucovski, no run

Dropped by Pant behind the stumps. Lovely bit of bowling by Ashwin but he's not going to get the reward for that. It's the loop and drift that does it again, Pucovski is drawn forward, but the ball dips and doesn't turn, takes a thin edge as he pushes with hands going away from pad. Pant unable to hold on

Jadeja bowled like 7 or 8 overs in the first 70 overs. He was hardly used as he was not that effective on view. His eventual numbers don't tell the whole story. Same at the MCG where Ashwin wsa the one who triggered the collapse reducing them to 38/3. This is why you have to watch the match. Blindly not throwing numbers.

Well in one innings India dropped 4 catches off Ashwin. Faf twice dropped,  Rabada dropped back to back balls.

Of course it means something in that context, Umesh is statistically the best (pace) bowler in India, post 2010's - Cummins being the best bowler in the world means * all when he's playing in India! So when you're saying take 5 years record into account why the * would Ashwin's numbers in those 2 vital series not matter?

So you don't drop Cummins for that do you? Did they drop Warne or Murali just because our bowlers outbowled him?
