@Chakdephatte Cronje should not have been part of this draft.  Match Fixers are to be filtered and thrown out of any and all cricket discussions.  Also, bowling looks a bit light, especially on the spin front.

@R!TTER talk about bat-deep!!  Maco was no mug with the bat, and would easily bat #8 or even #7 in most XIs, and here he is the only guy who can bat last.  That is some batting depth.  Again bit light on spin, and Anwar at the top is shaky.

@Majestic That bowling lineup is awesome, powerful enough to carry overrated Justin Langer at the top of the batting.

@Rantzz  Imagine a partnership between Warner and IVAR, or IVAR with Kapil, or Botham.  That would be nuts.  Or imagine Dravid and Chanderpaul Pujara-ing their way through an entire day!

@QuarantineTormentino  Extra love for picking my boi Washi as 12th man.  Lets hope he lives up our expectations and soon! :)

@JaFanatic One of the most balanced teams in the list.  Shaqib is very underrated as a test cricketer, but you cheated by picking zero openers and going with Root and Hussey.

@zen has picked quite a team there - Apart from SMG, most of those guys are quite the entertainers.  Interesting test XI, would be amazing to watch !

Yup, "amazing to watch" was one of the main criteria  … Overall, a mouth watering prospect to imagine watching Gower and Martyn hit through the covers, Bond-Akhtar steam in to bowl, Murali display his wizardry, and so on!!

Won't call Langer overrated tbh. I have always felt he doesn't get the credit due due to Hayden who was a much successful all format opener and also a more aggressive player.

OK let's get it straight to the point here. Whoever selects my team as the best will get upvoted for every post (s)he makes for the next one month. And of course you have every valid reason to select my XI in this contest.

To all Sachin fans - I went for bhagwan as my very first choice while those seven Anti-Indians ignored him conveniently :dontknow:

To all my Pakistani brothers - Just look at the teams and you will know for yourself only my team has more than one player from the great Greenland.. Would you still vote for those biased teams

Btw, Adamant had picked Inzy in his team but then silently in a span of a minute, he edited it and changed it to David Boon. :phehe:

How can you not pick Inzy Bhai, the most talented batsman of all-time?

Pick my team - only team with 3 Indian legends

only team with 2

bonafide all rounders

also no Pakistanis so no fixers or chuckers ;)

and other criteria. Don’t go by emotion, pick on stature in the game :aha:

Reasons to go with Zen's Wolves:

a) A team picked not just based on stats but also on high watchability, bringing energy and excitement to test cricket

b) A team that does not focus on individuals but on output as a unit

c) A team picked on having watched most of the cricketers actually play live and manage pressure situations

d) Promotes fast bowling with two express pace bowlers in Bond and Akhtar (the fastest bowling attack assembled so can see a few legs shaking in other teams), and a fast bowler in Cummins. The all-rounder, Flintoff, bowls at high pace too, having brought the powerful 2000s Aus side to Ashes (no pun intended). This bowling line up can deliver pace, swing, reverse swing, yorkers, bouncers, and so on without batting an eye

e) Great spin attack in the form of off-spin wizard and one man army - Murali. Rashid, the 12th man, can support Murali with his leg spin with the express pace bowlers put in rotation in certain conditions. Part-time spin available through Sehwag too if required

f) Elegance and batting poetry on display through Gower and Martyn

g) Sehwag, Pietersen, and Gilchrist, along with the AR Flintoff, can take the attack to the opposition in style and with passion, keeping fans glued to the screen

h) Technical solidity through one of the best Test batsmen - Gavaskar

i) A team that takes no half measures by throwing in a "steady" batsman in the middle order just because too many are attacking or a trundler to strike up balance on paper. It plays with a consistent approach with same level of energy and excitement throughout whether batting or bowling for unadulterated fun

j) Backs the players to do the job over a period of time, therefore does not feel the need to create unnecessary "depth" beyond a certain point

k) and many more reasons but more importantly, you can proudly join the wolf pack to support a highly watchable brand of cricket that brings energy and excitement to test cricket:

I think of Langer as Aussie Gambhir - fierce competitor who worked hard to maximize his talents, but was not quite at the level of the best in class among his peers, and even his team.  Invaluable as a 'piece' of the puzzle no doubt.  But not quite ATG.  His numbers get bit inflated IMHO due to the benefit of riding the side-car of a very strong dominant team.

Its extremely fashionable to be dismissive of Sachin's greatness among a segment of folks - its sort of like the woko haram virtue signaling tribe - has more to do with the desire of such folks to signal how 'cool' they are, that they are not blind 'worshippers' of some legend - who after all, just kept on playing and playing and playing for such a long time, that being his fan became......passe.   Such faaltoo folks will often concoct weird stat slices, sprinkle subjective 'preferences' on to them and serve it up as pearls of cricketing 'wisdom'.

Let me tell you why you should pick my team:

- Agressive test captain who is also arguably a clutch middle order batsman, and can bowl handy left arm part time spin

- batting line up that is a mix of batsmen that can tough it out as well as smash the bowling around. Everybody in my line up until no 7. has double hundreds in test cricket, and Clarke, Mahela and Hayden also have test triples. De Villiers and Stokes - both very capable of batting well with the tail.

- De Villiers is a freak who can play at both Pujara’s S/R as well as a S/R well above 100, whatever the situation demands.

- arguably the best test batting allrounders of all time, Kallis, needs no introduction

- Count Pujara needs no explanation as well :p:

- Middle order built to bat big and bat long

- 4 front line bowlers, including 3 genuinely quick seamers who can both swing the ball as well as hit the deck hard and one of the only skilful off spinners who can bowl the doosra legally

- Kallis and Stokes can give enough support to the frontline seamers if the need arises

- tail that is more than capable of tonking it around

- almost all my players that have been carefully picked to suit their particular position in the line up, where they average the highest/have played most of their test career in

- future ATG as my 12th man

yeah, it's a peculiar phenomenon. When I have met people from the countries making up Windies or Oz or Eng, they were almost uniformly adulatory vis-a-vis Lara, Smith/Punter, and Cook/KP respectively. I will admit that small number statistics do come into the picture, but I cannot help but feel that a subset of people from India like to bash erstwhile national heroes just because it's "kool" to do so.
