S Sreesanth was serving a life ban from cricket for his alleged involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, which ended in September last year after getting reduced to 7 years.

One thing must say. I havent seen a better exhibition of seam bowling in my life by an indian bowler which Sreesanth did in 2006/7 series first test in wanderers joberg. 5/40. Smith Amla Kallis Boucher Pollock. He was unplayable. In second innings he took 3/59 Smith Amla Kallis. All in their prime. 8/99 bowling figures ... (and that famous one six of Andrew Nel ) Never ever an opposition bowler has taken the wickets of the top 3 run getters ( in south africas history)  twice in the same test. Either home or away.. what a talent he was once..

One interesting point about Sreesanth's career is he had the highest percentage of top order wickets at one point. Even batsmen he dismissed were top batsmen.

This was such a great spell by Sreesanth vs Australia in world T20 semi final. Hayden vs Sreesanth duel was great. I honestly think Sreesanth would have been a much better bowler with this current unit. Very nippy. Watch him at 8:24 what a ball.

sreaasanth's skills were never really in question: it was his consistency and his temperament. if managed better and counseled better, he could have had a much longer career.

Under Kohli he would have gelled lol  He is 10 times more than Siraj in terms of stare contests

He had both issues

1. Personally he didn't seem to be careful enough. He made tall claims about his fitness in 2011. Said that he was bowling 150 Kph and he returned with beer belly. He was bowling in 120 Ks and managed to do well in 2 sessions of 2nd Trent Bridge test and then ran out of steam. Skills and aggression can't take a pacer far if he is unfit. Look at Shami, he is able to sustain intensity throughout the match. 

 

2. Dhoni was big time party pooper. Instead of going after opposition batsmen, he tried to stop Sreesanth and even discouraged him in press conference. Sreesanth needed support from captain.

I remember the test. England were tottering for 100/8 odd. Then broad spanked and they got to a middling score. India took the lead and it was looking ominous till they collapsed and handed over the test in englands plate. Sreesanth first two sessions was bowling as good as he ever did. Thats it. That was the end of his career in that series

Actually people don’t know this but kohli and Sreesanth were pretty close. They used to hang around after matches along with usual suspect Yuvi. I saw some pics of them together outside as well as in a party.

Dhoni played a big role in stifling his aggression and turned him into a joker with snide remarks about him.  I don't say he didn't give him chance. But instead of channeling that firebrand aggression, Dhoni focused on "being cool". Fast bowlers should not be cool. They should be red hot.

Sreesanth was a great bowler. Even in the 2010-11 SA tour he took crucial wickets. He was erratic in his personality, but could have been managed better by the likes of Jharkhandi. The latter used to just yell at him. Such types needed to be taken under the tutelage of someone who can nuture and guide him along the right path. He never got that. Not saying he is not guilty of his actions which he was.
