Novak Djokovic's Australian visa cancelled

It's amazing how the rich and famous feel that the rules don't apply to them.

Unless you have a medical exemption and you can prove it, you need to be fully vaccinated (two doses).

Thats the LAW. And EVERYBODY has to abide by the LAW. If you're Novak, those rules seemingly don't apply.

People who are fully vaccinated and have all the paperwork to prove it, they still are not able to meet family/see loved ones because of changing border restrictions.

Long story short, his visa has been cancelled. And has been told in no uncertain terms told to * off. And rightly so, well done

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt told Sunrise: “Mr Djokovic failed to provide appropriate evidence to enter Australia and the visa has been subsequently cancelled.

“It’s up to him whether he wishes to appeal that, but if a visa is cancelled, leave the country.

“Yes, it is tough but it is fair and one rule for all under this Australian Government.”

Pretty clear cut.

Yep. He tried to fake documents for a medical exemption, and he got the exemption from the local govt but the federal govt felt that they were not appropriate reasons. His strong anti vaxx stance is what did him in. A very bad situation Djokovic has got himself in, first anti vaxx, now faking documents for medical exemption, and getting denied for visa entry.

He could've just done the smart thing and got himself vaccinated.

That explains why two seperate boards approved his exemption.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I don't mind him being anti vaxx (don't agree but at least he keeps his vaccinations lies/mistruths to himself). But using his clout and influence to fake documents, that's just unacceptable.

What a *ing disgrace this guy is, Australia does not tolerate this bullshit, doesn't matter how rich and famous you are.

Djokovic's evidence for medical exemption 'insufficient'

Novak Djokovic's high-profile anti-vaccination stance was a magnet for attention at Australia's border, Scott Morrison has claimed.

The prime minister also explained that the evidence Djokovic had relied on for a medical exemption to enter Australia without being vaccinated was insufficient.

"He did not have a valid medical exemption," Mr Morrison said, explaining why Djokovic's visa was sensationally cancelled by Australian Border Force this morning.

There are reports the world number one will be deported on a flight tonight after he was taken to a Carlton hotel following his nine-hour detention at Melbourne Airport.

Australia are deporting him on the next flight back to Europe, which is due in the next 4 hours.

Djokovic could be banned for three years from Australia

Novak Djokovic faces the risk of being barred from re-entering Australia for three years if his bid to overturn his cancelled visa fails.

Djokovic was transported to a Melbourne hotel earlier today and could be sent back to Serbia within hours unless his lawyers can stop the deportation.

A Federal Court challenge is expected this afternoon.

Experts claim his bid to reverse the decision will likely collapse and could lead to him being locked out of the country for three years.

Professor of Public Law at University of Sydney, Mary Crock, was quoted by the NCA Newswire today, warning: "The law on this is very weighted in favour of the government of the day."Conversely, if you apply for the wrong visa, the discretion to be granted another visa at the point of entry is very limited.

"And if a visa has been cancelled, the consequences of that are very long term – both for Australia and any other country he enters, because you are always asked 'have you been deported or excluded'.

"If he's deported from Australia, there's a potential he could be excluded for three years."

Another option could be to send Djokovic home, allow him to amend his visa application then return to Melbourne.

Speaking in a press conference on the matter this morning, Prime Minister Scott Morrison revealed there had never been an exemption in place and Djokovic's proof of a medical exemption was "insufficient".

"I want to thank the Border Force officers for doing their job implementing the Government's policies ... entry with a visa requires double vaccination, or a medical exemption," he said. "I am advised that such an exemption was not in place, and as a result he is subject to the same rule as anyone else.

"I also want to stress, that ultimately, this is the responsibility of the traveller. It is for the traveller to be able to assert and back up their ability to come into the country consistent with our laws.

"They can take advice, but it is up to them at the end of the day, and if they do not comply with the rules, that the Australian Border Force will do their job, and they have done their job (in this case).

"This is nothing about any one individual, it is simply a matter of following the rules, and so those processes will take their course, over the next few hours, and that event will play out as it should."

The Australian government has been exposed as a bunch of hypocrites. They first said that his visa is valid and that his exemption was approved. Now, they went back after some backlash. It was clear that Morrison just changed his stance whimsically to make a statement. They follow "rules" when it is convenient and disobey them when they don't like to.

His "visa exemption" was based on faked documents.

They are just "cooking" up that story. If it was based on fake documents, then how did the Victorian government allow him to participate based on two independent medical panel reviews. Why does Scott Morrison say that the decision is based on the Victorian government's approval yesterday and today he switches gears to say that the border policies do not permit him to allow Djokovic to enter. This is ridiculous and now they are attempting a cover up operation. If he wasn't eligible based on rules, then why was the exemption granted in the first place? They could have just told him to get a vaccine or don't come over.
