Aussie commentary is top notch

I was  watching the highlights of todays Aus vs SL game. Just listen to the commentary, it was just another run of the mill match but the enthusiasm seems so genuine. 
 

Compare that to the commentary team in the India vs WI series
 

Also the SL team doesn’t look as bad as it was maybe a year ago or so. Shaping up nicely. Their bowling looks really strong.

Its unfair comparisons.

Firstly T20 in Australia vs ODI in India

Secondly crowds in T20 vs no crowds in ODI.

 

I actually think the T20 commentary in Australia is over the top. I dont enjoy it as there is no analysis or commentary on tactics etc. Its over the top excitement.

 

I love Indian commentary but I am biased, as I am starved of info about the team in Australia, I get to learn and understand a lot.

Yea they are good at pretending to be excited about a t20 game.

You would be surprised how insignificant and irrelevant cricket is for almost all Australians  outside of Dec to Jan and the Ashes in England.

Unlike Aus, Ind plays more or less 1 sport. However, it still cannot enjoy it (enjoyment is related to wins). 
 

For many, every  game is a reason to complain about something. An U19WC or an IPL is some kind of an audition rather than a means to sit back and enjoy the tournament for what it is (and as if fans are selectors, even wasting time on making useless 11 for every game, when the actual selectors or even players don’t give a rat’s arse to what fans think). Players who cut down on risks are rated higher. This aspect is probably reflected in commentary too.

Talking about commentary in Aus, Benaud & Greig used to be excellent at it!

Cricket is more a Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide thingy in Australia. 

Not many play cricket in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra etc. 

 

Number 1 sport in Australia is all

Number 2 rugby league and then 3) cricket 

4) soccer

5) swimming

Michael Slator too … IIRC, in the Natwest final when Bhajji got out, the Indian commentator was complaining about the shot he played (and not finishing the game. The commentator probably not understanding that is how a sport goes. If it were up to batsmen, no one will ever get out and every bowler will bowl perfectly), while Slator was praising Bhajji for doing his job and now it is up to others to do theirs (two different PoV to the same situation)

It doesn’t matter about significance or insignificance of the sport, it’s about professionalism. Do you think American, Chinese and Russian people follow every sport  they win medals in?

 

One thing we need to admire about Australia is especially when It comes to cricket is their revolutionary broadcasting. The white ball, colored clothing, spider cam, the lighting bails, the commentary and scorecard/graphics  style that is still used today,stump mic are all Aussie innovations.

for me Bill Lawry has a special place because for some reason I associate Sachin’s batting in Australia with his amazing commentary. Especially vintage Sachin in Australia

Aussie commentary these days is loud, high pitched, and at times soiled with dirt. I like the classic era with the likes of Benaud and Bill Lawry. Not that the new gen of Gilly, Slater Warne are bad, but their is a clear difference in style from the old classic era to the new gen. Oldies were more subtle with better commentary voices.

Yes it does matter significantly.

Sports and its importance are determined by sponsorship dollars and resources that the governments invests in, thats the bottom line.

Sri lanka team is shaping up nicely...  Gunatjilaka is back after ban...  Dickwella is still banned. 

Chameera is a 90mph pacer + Fastest pacer in Asia Lahiru Kumara in dugout. 

Hasaranga & a mystery spinner Theekshana.   Budding A/R Chamika Karunaratne & promising Left hander Asalanka. 

A T20 seris vs SL will be a good contest.  They showed great promise in WT20 in a tough group.

I think SL will beat us if we think we can arrogantly pick the wrong team and still win matches.

Indian commentary is the worst.. Especially nowadays listening to the likes of Sivaramakrishnan, Murali Karthik, Deep Dasgupta and Ajit Agarkar who provide no real analysis or excitement. Murali Kartik especially makes my ears bleed. 

Sunny G looks uninterested and Bhogle is full of himself. Need Shastri back in the combox
