zen
Before I go into IPL mode, maybe a time to get a few thoughts in for team Ind plans for the upcoming T20WC in Aus. Action plan: Create backups as with such high intensity cricket, injuries are now a part and parcel of the game Focus on key series such as against Aus and the Asia Cup where opponents are expected to be near full strength. Even WI could be full strength when Ind tours that region. England likes to shuffle its players around so not sure if Ind would be playing Eng's strongest team Use IPL to identify talent including the ability to handle high pressure (IPL is closest to a world event in its format) Key consideration: Aus pitches, grounds, and full strength strong opponents (team to beat Pak, SA, BD, along with WI which is expected to make Group B) Form and fitness of players at the time of the WC (say around Asia Cup and Aus tour to Ind) Focus on players who have done well in Aus Fielding abilities In the last series in Aus: ODIs Overall figures Player Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s HH Pandya 3 3 1 210 92* 105.00 183 114.75 0 2 0 15 6 V Kohli 3 3 0 173 89 57.66 186 93.01 0 2 0 14 3 RA Jadeja 3 3 1 115 66* 57.50 98 117.34 0 1 0 6 6 S Dhawan 3 3 0 120 74 40.00 136 88.23 0 1 0 17 0 Shubman Gill 1 1 0 33 33 33.00 39 84.61 0 0 0 3 1 KL Rahul 3 3 0 93 76 31.00 92 101.08 0 1 0 5 5 MA Agarwal 2 2 0 50 28 25.00 44 113.63 0 0 0 6 1 SS Iyer 3 3 0 59 38 19.66 59 100.00 0 0 0 7 0 Overall figures Player Mat Inns Overs Mdns Runs Wkts BBI Ave Econ SR 4 5 SN Thakur 1 1 10.0 1 51 3 3/51 17.00 5.10 20.0 0 0 HH Pandya 3 1 4.0 0 24 1 1/24 24.00 6.00 24.0 0 0 Mohammed Shami 2 2 19.0 0 132 4 3/59 33.00 6.94 28.5 0 0 T Natarajan 1 1 10.0 1 70 2 2/70 35.00 7.00 30.0 0 0 JJ Bumrah 3 3 29.3 1 195 4 2/43 48.75 6.61 44.2 0 0 Kuldeep Yadav 1 1 10.0 0 57 1 1/57 57.00 5.70 60.0 0 0 NA Saini 2 2 17.0 0 153 1 1/83 153.00 9.00 102.0 0 0 YS Chahal 2 2 19.0 0 160 1 1/89 160.00 8.42 114.0 0 0 RA Jadeja 3 3 30.0 0 185 1 1/62 185.00 6.16 180.0 0 0 T20s Overall figures Player Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 0 4s 6s V Kohli 3 3 0 134 85 44.66 94 142.55 0 1 0 7 5 RA Jadeja 1 1 1 44 44* - 23 191.30 0 0 0 5 1 HH Pandya 3 3 1 78 42* 39.00 50 156.00 0 0 0 4 5 S Dhawan 3 3 0 81 52 27.00 63 128.57 0 1 0 7 2 KL Rahul 3 3 0 81 51 27.00 64 126.56 0 1 1 7 2 SV Samson 3 3 0 48 23 16.00 34 141.17 0 0 0 2 2 SS Iyer 2 2 1 12 12* 12.00 6 200.00 0 0 1 1 1 Washington Sundar 2 1 0 7 7 7.00 6 116.66 0 0 0 1 0 MK Pandey 1 1 0 2 2 2.00 8 25.00 0 0 0 0 0 Overall figures Player Mat Inns Overs Mdns Runs Wkts BBI Ave Econ SR 4 5 T Natarajan 3 3 12.0 0 83 6 3/30 13.83 6.91 12.0 0 0 YS Chahal 3 3 12.0 0 117 4 3/25 29.25 9.75 18.0 0 0 SN Thakur 2 2 8.0 0 82 2 1/39 41.00 10.25 24.0 0 0 Washington Sundar 3 3 12.0 0 85 2 2/34 42.50 7.08 36.0 0 0 DL Chahar 3 3 12.0 0 111 1 1/29 111.00 9.25 72.0 0 0 Edited May 17, 2022 by zen Banton and Vijy 1 1 Link to comment
Lone Wolf
Three players should be given or played most T20 games coming up before T20 WC.. Pant Shreyas & SKY. In spin bowling keep trying Chahal Bishnoi. Pace department rotate Bumrah & Siraj to maintain their workload. Finalize your Playing XI before Asia Cup. Link to comment

zen
Below is a rough short list (3-7 players in each category): Top order (#1-3) Gill - good record in Aus, improved as a T20 player Abhishek - appears to have good sense of how to use PP, can bowl an over of required Rituraj - Consistent if in form Samson - High strike rate impact batting KL - Consistency Jaiswal - positive attitude Agarwal - can be good in Aus if in form Middle order (#4-7) SDP (Hardik) - good in pressure situation, bowling in the 135-145 range SKY - 360 degrees batting Pant - impact player DK - improved player with cool closing abilities Tewatia - improved player esp. high pressure situations in lower middle order and can squeeze in an over if required Hooda - improved player and can bowl an over if required Tripathi - 360 degrees batting Pacers - Power Play D Chahar - injured but can use the new ball well & can bat at #7-8 Shami - improved bowler with the new ball Umesh - has a knack of picking up wkts Pacers - Left arm Yash Dayal - still a little raw but can move the ball both ways with decent pace & bowl at multiple stages Natarajan - if he can execute his yorkers otherwise can become a liability too Arshdeep - accuracy Moshin - bounce Khaleel - improved bowler Mukesh - good in PP Pacers - Multi-stage bowlers Bumrah - slowly getting back to his best but not too confident on his ability to deliver under pressure Prasidh - bowls good line & length at pace Umran - a wild card for express pace Avesh - improving as a bowler Spinners Yuzi - has been performing in tough situations Kuldeep - slowly getting back to his best Bishnoi - a tough customer when in rhythm Sai Kishore - a wild card added for ability to generate bounce & york (good accuracy) Utility players Axar - can bowl a few overs, useful bat, and fields well Harshal - good on pitches with some grip like in subcon Riyan Parag - a wild card as he is comfortable against most type of bowling, fields well, & can slip in an over Shahbaz - good temperament Sundar - off spin & some useful batting Thakur - for a few overs & some hitting Edited May 17, 2022 by zen Link to comment

If despite losing steam, he has averaged 13 with ER of 6, will take such a bowler any day. The best thing about him is deception. Link to comment

Too early for a WC 11 which is why I listed the short list from which one can pick the final squad beginning with Asia Cup & the series versus Aus ... It is important to give key players a chance in the series against SA, Eng, & WI However, at this point (based on current info so there is no perfect 11), if I have to put a 16 member squad: #1-2 KL & Samson (both play pace & bounce well) #3 SKY #4 Pant #5 SDP (Hardik) #6 DK (considering form, motivation and experience) #7 D Chahar (utility slot. Chahar to bowl in PP & can bat too) #8 Moshin (bounce & pace variations) #9 Kuldeep (a mystery variety relatively speaking. can swing his bat too) #10 Umran (for pace) ... can play a 2nd spinner (Yuzi) here as well #11 Bumrah (for experience) #12 Gill #13 Hooda - improved batsman against pace & bounce, can bat anywhere, and slip in a few overs of off-spin if needed # 14 Yuzi - wkt taking leg spinner #15 Arshdeep - for accuracy and backup for left arm pacer #16 Thakur or equivalent - utility slot backup Link to comment
