Gollum
Neeraj Chopra effect: India has the most number of javelin throwers with 76m+ throws Less than a week before Neeraj's 89.30 feat Quote The recently held Inter-State Athletics tournament saw young thrower from Karnataka DP Manu in his groove. Manu's four performances this season are his career bests. In two of those throws, he registered distances above 80 metres. His 84.35m Personal Best (PB) on Saturday moved him into the top four of the all-time India top list. The throwers above him on the leaderboard are Neeraj (88.07m, 2021), Shivpal Singh (86.23m, 2019), and Davinder Singh Kang (84.57m, 2017). Many of these athletes younger than GOAT Quote "Till Neeraj's gold-medal winning feat, we could see throwers only from elite level used to throw above 75 m, but Neeraj's moment became the watershed moment. Now even junior throwers can throw above 75m. In fact, at the Inter-state championships, seven athletes threw above 75m. You don't see this strong reserve in any other countries of the world. Not even in the countries like Germany or Finland" In fact, a total of 12 javelin throwers from India have breached the 76m mark in 2022, which is the highest from any country this season. "If Neeraj has done it, others also are motivated to do it," concludes Naik. He believes India will soon become the powerhouse of javelin throwers and Chopra's legacy would go on to create more Olympic champions. f20143g70, Mariyam, Prakat and 1 other
randomGuy
Thanks for making the thread...his hunger is great... Beats his personal best after Olympic gold. Most glamorous event of the entire Olympics by far is the 100m sprint, a dream for me is the day when we win a gold in 100m sprint.. that day we would have arrived on international sports scene with the bang such that every country would be talking about Indian athletes... jf1gp_1

Yeah but looks tough. Genetics does seem to play a role there if we look at all the winners/finalists of that event of the last 4 decades or so. People with West African ancestry have more fast twitch muscle fibres which gives them a big edge. Opposite in the case of long distance races (10k and plus) where Kenyans, Somalians, Ethiopians dominate, tough to match them in endurance events...more slow twitch fibres and less lactic acid buildup in their case. Even Americans seem to have given up on long distance success and are focusing more on middle distance, cross country etc. Again cross country is tough, maybe Indians can target 400m (Milkha Singh, PT Usha), 800m type events. We have very large population pool...This time around, one Chinese guy was also in the final 8... Iirc the Chinese guy had the best personal best among all the finalists (but he could not win the medal).

I am sure if trained for sprint, he can give many run for their money. He is very Swift when he runs in. randomGuy

Mariyam
We are in 2022. Why does it matter how far someone throws a spear or how fast one can run/swim/hop? Olympics would be apt if we lived in the era of cavemen. That said, very proud of Neeraj Chopra. Gollum
Was worried he would chase the Bollywood dream after that huge achievement. Enough time for that after his retirement in his 30s with a few more Olympic medals in the bag. He oozes charisma and based on that Cred ad he already looks like a better actor than all nepo kids.
