On one hand, regarding Kohli, he says: ""If you talk of form, it goes up and down for everyone. The quality of a player never goes down ... When some player has done so well consistently for so long, that can't be written off in one or two series or one or two years. It takes people time to understand it completely, but those who are running the team know the importance of that quality."

On the other, he says: "We have seen some boys have been playing under pressure. We don't want them to play under pressure. If they play with that freedom, they will do better than their own expectations from themselves. You saw an example today [Suryakumar], saw another one in Ireland [Hooda]. I won't take names. That's how boys emerge. It is important to let them know what we want from them as a team management. That message has to be consistent. If you say something today, something else tomorrow, it won't work."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But wait ... what did Hooda get for his consistently good play?  Benched to accommodate Kohli. How is that action consistent with the above words?

Need him for captaincy as shown in IPL. No qs

That is a false impression of his fanboys (who are usually wrong on most things) and therefore could break down too (like it did for MI in IPL with 0-8) :hmmm:

Probably, struggling to accept that T20s don't need Kohli & him (Rohit) :dontknow:

He needs kohlit there to make him look better hahah. That's the only reason.

Just like how kohli needed rahane to support him so he looks good and his stats get overlooked.

Toying with Indian cricket … They have lost in so many world cups that they have probably got used to “it”

Doest help when so many morons worship these guys. I do have slightly more faith in rohit as he has been a good captain for MI excluding last season. However, he has a tendency to duck and choose games avoid to maintain good stats.

Not a fanboy, we are desperate for a WC. It matters who leads from the front

Revamping..? Regressing more like till old age home stars are still in the team

Well everyone's trying to hit from ball one.

What more do you need?

He hasn't lost his touch totally like Kohli, he will do well in some matches.

rohit batting for kohli. next, he will try to get in dhawan into t20s too. perhaps even persuade tandoorie (tendu) to come out of retirement.

He is just reciprocating favors to Kohli for giving him so many chances in Test cricket when he was ruled unfit. It is natural, no captain or rather no Indian captain talks against ex-captains playing in the team, except for maybe SMG against KD in 1984-85 after losing the Kolkata match.

It is the selectors who have to make that call on Kohli

It's about scratching each others' back to maintain the "clique". Remember these are the same thickheaded people who were perplexed when questions were asked about India's middle order (3 - 5) in tests. The same middle order who has a combined 1 century over the past 2 years (15+ test matches). Rookies who had to be picked due to injuries managed to outperform these dumb*s and carve India's greatest back-to-the-wall series win. Yet, we somehow manage to sit those performers out and pick the non-performers again.

Venkatesh Prasad now being ambushed by Kohli PR on SM.

If someone were to ask "what is the biggest problem with Indian cricket?", the easiest and correctest answer is "resting on one's laurels".

Even the most ardent Kohli detractors will agree that Kohli has put in ATG performances for a long time. He is in the upper echelon of Indian bats, and in ODIs, belongs in the Sachin/Viv discussion.  But, a 3-year run drought is way too long. He has been well-compensated for his contributions, but now that he is not really pulling his weight, something must be done in the interest of the team.  Doing that does not mean denying his past contributions.
