I don't rate Jadeja in T20 at all. But his absence forced them to look for similar option. Kuldeep was never given a run. Would have been handy in Australia.

Retaining of Hooda is also perplexing. I am not sure he will have any use either with bat or ball. He is not given a bowl. He bats down the order. Not his spot.

Did they test Harsha's form before picking him? Deepak Chahar post injury is not the same. He is still getting his rhythm back.

Hooda maybe just an insurance for SDP.

Even RS does not seem to trust him with the ball

Batting looks great and fairly deep. Will do well in Aus. 

 

Biggest weakness is lack of a 6th bowler. Jadeja will be missed badly but I am not in favour of playing Hooda as he isn't a good bowler nor a finisher. DK will be a better asset.

Hooda will bat at 7 most probably.

Hopefully the 6 matches and 2 practice games in Aus give him time to know how to play at this position.

 

Shami's selection is probably the worst selection I have seen. Selectors gave in just coz of commie pressure. One of the worst T20 bowlers in the world.

What has Harshal Patel achieved in International Cricket? Why is he an automatic pick in the squad after his return from injury? The more I look at each name in this selected squad, the more I get frustrated.

Imagine playing 1 game vs Asia Cup as a youngster....  Out bowling so called no 1 spinner in India Chahal...  Getting dropped vs Afg fir no reason....  And get demoted to reserve squad in WT20 over two old losers.  Indian cricket in a nutshell

That strategy didn't exactly go well in Asia cup. Teams can always use a right handed bowler against him.

Probably would have been the best selection. But they keep him in reserves. Only way he can step in is when Chahal gets thrashed in the coming matches.

Yeah but it's not good to have a team only of RHs. Pant is also a (backup) wk and a promising young player.
