Match-ups are important - Rahul Dravid on Axar bowling just one over

Off spinners in T20s in the last 2 years against top 8 sides. Mahedi Hasan and Moeen are the only conventional offie in that list. Both play as all rounders. Guys like Theekshana, Mujeeb have a whole bag of trickeries up their sleeve. Theekshana can even swing the ball. Maxie is a part timer. Rest are exclusively wristies and left arm orthodox.  Ashwin is mostly a defensive bowler. He is not going to take wickets for you.

Nowadays he has become a defensive bowler. His economy is still under 7. But his issue he can go for one gigantic over.

Figures of 4-0-30-1 are good if they come with some contributions with the bat. What got Ashwin back into the team is what he did with the bat in ipl along with the whole experience meme. It probably puts him ahead of Hooda in the pecking order.

Current unit gives extra points for experience.   I think Hooda's omission was more to do with finding a batting spot in this line up. He is not a finisher. Seen from the limited example.  He probably can protect his wicket and score some runs up the order. There is no spots left up the order. They didn't pick him with a role in mind. They just picked him as a spinning all rounder.  Now that top order is set they don't know what to do with him. Botched experiment just like Vijay shankar experiment. Could have gone with a genuine fast bowler  or someone like Venkatesh Iyer.

Match Up is the worst idea I have came across in the history of cricket. 

 

If I am in form I can bludgeon past any batsman doesn't matter how well he plays my bowling. 

 

Dravid is trying to catch up with new trends but he is getting all the bad ideas, this match up thing should only be restricted to leagues not international stuff. 

 

To some extent it is ok, like bowling a left arm swing bowler to Indias opener but when you do it extensively there's no advantage, cricket is not a computer based sport. 

 

Freddie Wilde's idea of copying stuff from Moneyball won't really work in Cricket.

So is Dhoni lol. Lot of washed up players play the IPL.   Even in the IPL he was just a defensive bowler. He was the most economical bowler for RR. Actual wicket taker was Chahal.

Its' not a new idea, just a new name.

 

Teams always have used bowler who has success against particular batsman and vice versa

3 bad matches. First 5 sixes in one match. Then the next match scared of him getting hit by leftie they gave him just one over. Now this. You can see a pattern.
