Lone Wolf Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Blame is on TM & selectors who didn't groom a half decent left hander. Now we are prone to collapse vs spin in MO. Tendu has the right idea but having Pant over DK is a bad idea. A washed up DK is more consistent than Pant who will never be able to crack T20s. Tilak Verma should be fast tracked straight into NZ T20s... If Jokers have any vision.
SM2907 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 I am expecting Pant to play. Either DK or Axar to sit out.
Chakdephatte Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Now even the master said so. And then there are icf experts who says matchups don't matter.

Even Kohli backed him in this format earlier. And we don't have a better middle order lhb at the moment, not even a wrong choice.

As much as i believe DK is a better finisher, Pant as a left hander is a better bet against Shadab and Nawaz. Look at Sam Curran. Massacred Nawaz. Yes. Plus the comparison only makes sense if they were playing the same role. There's always a 5-7 overs gap in the entry point of these two. Pant cannot accelerate immediately as he showed.

Kishen kishen looked in all sought of trouble against most other kind of bowling Pant was backed , hasnt come good till now Tilak short ball game is worse then iyer and we are going to Australia Rana another terrible player of short ball Sundar injured rehta hai, power game hai nahin Even by next Wc we wont have enough left hander option unless jaiswal. devdutt show remarkable improvement n consistency . It wud be only Kishen , pant that too if performing well
Clarke Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 This is just old fashioned thinking in a time when right handers can switch hit & hit sixes like a left hander. Maybe it applies to our team which has been very traditional/conservative in approach but that left hander better earn his place in the team rather than stand out as a quota. You can make tactical changes, for e.g. player A has a good record against a side or on a ground/country and isn't a lesser player than the one being replaced. I used to hate this thought process, we got three right hand seamers so we need a left armer full stop; right hander was batting so we prefer left armer bowling to him etc.
Nikhil_cric Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 He's right. They dropped the ball way too early with Ishan Kishen. Playing all 3 of KL, Rohit and Kohli seemed a priority for the TM. nevada 1

Also our right handers apart from sky, DK and KL doesnt play reverse much (kl also doesnt use it much ) Logically their is a need for a leftie to take down SLA which all our batsman are struggling against but their isnt a proper answer. Kishen can but he struggles against other kind of bowling Edited October 18, 2022 by Ankit_sharma03

We need a Moeen or Prime Morgan to do the damage & attack cow corner & midwicket vs pacers & spinners. Right now Tilak is most promising young left handed MO batsman in the country... With recent inform performances vs NZ A &, now SMAT.

Kishan has better timing but poor game vs half decent pace. It's a 50-50 call between both of them in T20 but both won't be able to outscore a talented right hander. I'll take Iyer over both of them in T20Is.. That's how limited they both are.

So Tilak then has to take his game to that level that his other areas are very strong , which currently is not the case . His IPL Strike rate is 131 , SMAT strike is 138 this season.............gotta make bigger impact. Take patidar, shaw example both currently having a s/r of 197 in SMAT , that kind of impact is needed . Even venky iyer, samad, riyan parag are going at 160-170 s/r Its a basic game problem leftie or right dont make much diff. Pant-abhishek-devdutt or young stokes, yuvi didnt have it . To try someone like Tilak subcontinent is a safer place, In aus their is no hiding , Aussie conditions will test a lot of Lapebaaz batsman this time Edited October 18, 2022 by Ankit_sharma03

Indian think tank has fast tracked him straight into A set up like Shaw & Gill so they must have looked at his potential. It's isn't about Aussie conditions... You deal with conditions as you get more exposure. Venky, Riyan Parag, Samad they are cameo players not in Moeen or Morgan role.. Who can do both. We need our own Harry Brook or Phil Salt (both potential Mooen/Morgan replacement) & Tilak atm is closest to what we are gonaa get at nailing Middle order. Tilak's brief 4 day stint vs NZ A suggests he can be a potential Harry Brook for us as his basics look very strong like Brooks. Rest is all about exposure & how you execute your skills on the field. Playing a left handed better in a seven man batting attack isn't called matchup, it's common knowledge which existed 100 years before this 'matchup' word was invented.

Kishen can but he struggles against other kind of bowling See, that's the problem, talking about no leftie is barking at the wrong tree. Say we get a leftie but he's dismissed to another bowler or doesn't get a chance to attack the SLA bowler or fails while trying to slog. Do we then suggest 2-3 lefties in the team, which will likely be of lower quality overall than current batsmen assuming they weren't the first picks based on merit ? Number 1

It comes down to where we play. On good easy batting track he can handle pace. The way he butchered Nortje's 147 kph short ball for six was stunning. On his day Kishan is kind of a super man. Can do whatever he wants. But we don't see many such days.
SM2907 Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 India Pak Aus Eng - Sachin's 4 semi finalists prediction
vice Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 (edited) India would fancy left handed opener against leftie bowlers. Esp against Pak, India's top order has been vulnerable against lefties. case in point, champtions trophy, Dhawan was playing easily while India had lost 2 quick batsmen. India would have won that won the match if openers were lefties. Or heck bowl swings for maybe first few overs, can even send #8,9,10,11, for the first 5 overs in ODI wc in swing conditions if there are no lefties. For t20's you only have to get through 2-3 overs of lefti bowler. can send leftie pinch hitter taking tactics into consideration. Lefite opener for left swing and maybe another in the middle order to counter spin is ideal combo. Edited October 20, 2022 by vice
bowl_out Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 The left hander that played in the second half of Tendulkar's era was Yuvraj Singh. If we had somebody of his calibre, that would be a no brainer. But with the current options, I wouldn't force a left hander in the XI. If Pant does well and shows form in early games, good for us.. Otherwise DK it is
Chakdephatte Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 (edited) That's one weakness anyone can exploit. But our best option, Pant, has been horrible. Kishan failed outside India. Beside these, our options are limited. Padikkal afaik, is not comfortable against hard length. Have to manage with we have rather than what we should have.
