vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/t20-world-cup-2022-former-india-batter-sachin-tendulkar-highlights-importance-of-left-hand-batters-in-line-up-1340393 Sachin Tendulkar has stressed on the importance of having a left-hand batter in India's playing XI at the men's T20 World Cup, saying that they "add in value" and offer variety. Speaking to PTI after the Indians' six-run win over the Australians in a warm-up game in Brisbane, Tendulkar said, "Left-handers without any doubt add in value, and bowlers have to adjust, fielders have to adjust, and if they are able to rotate strike consistently, it is not something that the bowler enjoys." Rishabh Pant is the only top-order left-hand batter in India's squad. Axar Patel is also around, but he is more of a lower-order batter. And in what was a big blow to India's plans for the tournament, Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out with a knee injury. In 15 innings since June this year, Pant has averaged only 23 in T20Is, with a highest score of 44. Of late, intense competition in the middle order and a lack of runs from him have led to questions about Pant's place in India's T20I side. On three occasions recently - against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, and against Australia in Mohali and Hyderabad - Pant was squeezed out of the XI, as a full-strength India weighed their options. "Look, I wouldn't go by just the [top] three. You always play as a unit and one should see what works well," Tendulkar said. "You can't go by top two or top three. As a unit, what you have is important and then to figure out whom to send at what position, and also check what is the opposition's strength." Tendulkar also said he was impressed with Arshdeep Singh, who only made his T20I debut this July after building his reputation in the IPL. "Arshdeep has shown a lot of promise, and he looks a balanced guy. And whatever I have seen of him, he looks a committed fellow because you can see a player, you can make out looking at his mindset," Tendulkar said. "What I really like is that if Arshdeep has a plan, he commits to it, and that is really, really important in this format as batters are going out and playing those extra shots, and some innovative ones. So if you have a plan, commit to it."
vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 DK has not set the bar very high. Pant not being able to even cross that bar is disappointing. As much as i believe DK is a better finisher, Pant as a left hander is a better bet against Shadab and Nawaz. Look at Sam Curran. Massacred Nawaz. sandeep and raki05 1 1
vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 Another botch up is not having Venky Iyer. He could have been an option in place of Hooda. sandeep, Stan AF and Norman 1 2

As much as i have backed pant but his own return has made it tough DK value lies in 17-20 where we ll face harris rauf who ll be a bigger threat in Aus and pandya cant handle him . Axar patel has to do the job no other way Indian batters against left arm spin: KL Rahul: 47 avg, 125 SR Rohit Sharma: 42 avg, 114 SR Virat Kohli: 65 avg, 118 SR Suryakumar Yadav: 31 avg, 109 SR Hardik Pandya: 26 avg, 126 SR Dinesh Karthik: 31 avg, 127 SR Rishabh Pant: 18 avg, 131 SR pant avg is worse coz of his high dismissals against them and s/r isnt much difference

vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 Unfortunately i couldn't find a way to differentiate left arm wrist and left arm orthodox. I am sure Iyer bashed the living daylights of Shamsi 19 balls 41 runs Strike rate 215.78 5 sixes 1 four Shreyas Iyer vs Maharaj 10 balls 12 runs 1 six. So there is a difference.
vvvslaxman Posted October 17, 2022 Author Posted October 17, 2022 I am just using query. For example Iyer vs Hosein https://www.espncricinfo.com/ask/cricket-qna/shreyas-iyer-against-hosein-in-T20Is&tournament=menst20i
zen Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Tendulkar appears to be talking about an ideal scenario such as “good to have a left and a right hander batting together”. Now no one is going to start designing a 11 with 6 right handers and 5 left handers or vice versa. The first criteria is that a player should be good enough to be in the 11. The problem with India could be that some of its players are not relative to options available.
zen Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 (edited) An 11 based on L-R combination and using basic (can be even called dumb) stats (that don’t even tell the full story): Dhawan L Rohit R Paddikal L Kohli R Jadeja L KL R (wk) V Iyer L Ashwin R Arshdeep L Bhuvi R Khaleel L Backups (based on X stat against Y in Z conditions) S Iyer R Kishan L (wk) Harshal R Axar L Thakur R A squad of 16 to maintain even number of Ls and Rs PS if a RH is out, a RH goes to bat; if a LH is out, a LH goes to bat If a LH is batting, a bowler that moves the ball away from him is to be bowled. If a RH is batting, a bowler that moves the ball away from him is to be bowled … If there is a conflict, the captain shall allow the batsman creating the conflict to take a single so that the bowler can bowl to the desired batsman Also the 11 is full of steady players so the viewers will not get a shock when someone tries to hack or manufacture a big hit unless the ball is a bad ball … After all the point of a team is to make viewers feel relaxed and not worry about someone playing unusual shots All worked out meticulously on “paper” that the captain shall always carry in his pocket Edited October 18, 2022 by zen
