Great thread about yesterday's innings - @zen, @Ankit_sharma03, @Ravi_Shastri, @Adamant

Yea its his range against pace that turns him into beast in last few overs. Yesterday he scored 39 of 14 in last 4 overs.

At death u get a lot of hard length and yorkers and he can easily play those 2 due to his range.

U can check his shots against yorkers against malinga in Hobart or wide yorkers in Mohali knock against Aus in 2016

In between problem came when he use to get stuck against spin. So he use to try to overhit at start against pacers and end up playing extra risky shot which wasnt his game as he has always been very calculative. Now he has started hitting spinners again . Then in final overs comes his range against pace , very few in wc has . The shots he played to shaheen n rauf in last few overs wasnt possible for any normal batsman. Only very few cud do it that to under such pressure and he has done that many times in past too. Thats why rohit- dravid and anyone with this small understanding was backing him . This is Aus u need different level skill to bat here, Wi wali thullebaazi yaha nahin chalti

This shot was eerily similar to Tendulkar’s one off Kasper at Sharjah.

The morning after it is still unbelievable that we got 48 from 18, with Kohli getting almost all of them. Just imagine, India’s second fastest 50 in T20s is off 18 balls (Rahul). They pretty much matched this in the last three overs!:phew:

Kasper bowled an offcutter. So it was bit easier and it was not as high.

@Chakdephatte thanks for sharing.

Note that I am not discussing any inning or batsman in particular but the what strike rate at the death accounts for or does not account for (If the OP had Joe Root, he would have been used for discussion).

I enjoyed Kohli’s batting against Pakistan.  Now I have moved on to other games.

This would not have happened were it not for Pandya who by Kohli's own admission calmed him down when he felt he was losing the game by scoring 10 off 22 balls and would probably have gotten out to a rash shot around that time. The approach under the circumstances was absolutely the right one to wait unti the last 5 for an opening and not lose wickets.

I still believe he’s not yet back to his best.
Now that’s a scary thought for the opposition but just what the doctor ordered for Team India:canabis:

Yet to be seen how he does on test cricket. Technique doesn't matter in here in LOIs, but some of his dismissals in test cricket recently were funny. Mindset cannot cover for it, he has to change his technique and resist fishing outside off.

Rauf also bowled a slower one. The height of the balls maybe dissimilar but I felt the shots were not.
